The reaction of the cast and crew who thought they were going to get to do four sequels:

I’ve seen it 3 times. I enjoy it. Could it be better? Absolutely. But I like the foundation they have to work with if they do go foreword with a sequel. I hope they do.

The smaller companies are just following the model of the larger ones--they are doing used up brands and franchises no one asked for. They cant get funding or distribution for anything else.
Probably what will happen is the smaller companies sell out to the larger ones--which eventually get absorbed by Disney. Then Mousefilm would be like Mosfilm. How much competition did Mosfilm have? None.
Yet it still existed not because of popularity (a lot of people are surprised how amateur Soviet film looked) but because it was the only game in town and fully subsidized. And Disney also gets money from taxpayers. A giant corporation owns the the movie studios--they can fully subsidize their movie division with money from other sources. That's why they aren't fretting about audiences numbers. They don't care. The one thing they have no shortage of is money.
No competition is allowed in.

Why you have such a hard on for movies failing? I'm just tired of people planning out these ridiculous 6, 7, 8, 9 film franchises before they even know how the first one will do. Power Rangers, the Dark Universe, etc. I even suspect that the Fantastic Beasts franchise won't last past the third installment when they already announced like 7 movies.

Meanwhile, after WB tried to suppress the Snyder Cut numbers of the JL, China released that nearly 8 million people viewed it in one day.
Other countries are talking about 3rd party stats and ZSJL has over 55 million views, and breaking records.
Meanwhile HBO Max in the U.S. got rid of their “trending” section when it was released and suppressed numbers.

Many wildly inaccurate things in you post. Mosfilm release intellectual Russian films by great director like Tarkovsky. Disney no do that, they release mindless swill to distract masses from more pressing issues like class struggle. Mosfilm nothing like evil capitalist Disney.

Mosfilm did movies about how awful the US was for having racial problems at the very time they were starving people in the Ukraine. What's the saying: people in glass houses shouldn't throw stones? Mosfilm, like Disney, hired apparatchiks. 70 years of Soviet film and the only one they talk about is the Solaris guy? In the US or England there are many famous filmmakers. How come all of Russia and the USSR only produced two filmmakers who people talk about--Eisenstein (a friend of Stalin) and Tarkovsky. That's it? What a failure of cultural production. Italy never had that problem. How come the USSR had a problem fostering homegrown artists?
Disney is following the Mosfilm example. There's a difference between Walt Disney making a Fantasia and modern Disney doing a film meant to be accessible in Communist China.

Good, I hope a sequel is never made. The cast sucks and none of them are likeable or can draw audiences.
