Good news is that it is coming back for a fifth series (filming is under way). I thought I had read somewhere that the fourth series was going to be the last.
Bad news is that this will be the end of the adventures of Uthred, son of Uthred.

That's disappointing. The books have reached their conclusion, so I'd have liked to see them all adapted. That said, the tv show was paying less attention to the books as it went on, and not coincidentally dropping in quality. I had a feeling they'd get less interesting once Alfred was gone. He wasn't the main character, but he gave the story its soul. It'll be missed, but I'm glad we at least got five seasons out of it.

Unlike Vikings it got even better not worse. But better a proper finish than a drag like Vikings.

He was certainly a crucial character, but I felt the books dealt very well with his successors too. The show less so, I'd agree. If the BBC could have afforded to carry on with it, rather than Netflix taking over, I would have expected them to expand on Æthelstan's story considerably. Would've loved to see that. Hell, take us all the way up to 1066 for that matter.

Unlike Vikings it got even better not worse. But better a proper finish than a drag like Vikings. The first two seasons of Vikings are fantastic, but it fell off a cliff fast. I stuck with it to the end, though. The history was always wildly inaccurate, but if you viewed it as a 'inspired by historical events' instead of 'based on historical events,' you could roll with it. The problem was how repetitive it was, and how they basically condensed the entire Viking age to two generations of one family. The character turns, redemptions and return to forms were so cyclical I forgot who was responsible for what after a while. Characters would turn on each other for no apparent reason, and then form an uneasy alliance for no apparent reason, sometimes within the same episode it seemed. The writing was just bonkers.
