Dark matter and energy are just stand-ins, a mathematical cheat, until we learn more. The universe is pretty bizarre, our minds round off the numbers and make things work good enough to survive and reproduce, but our experience is not exactly true to how the universe behaves.
One of the more interesting methods of space travel I've seen in science fiction is humanity sends out unmanned ships to distant stars and then beams consciousness (laser) to intersect the ships/stations where they are uploaded into a surrogate body. So people travel at the speed of light, and it feels instantaneous, but years pass in real time. It begs the same questions as Star Treks transporter, are you the same person or a facsimile.

Wouldn't that be a super difficult and tedious process trying to get the laser on target? And as for the Star Trek question, I'd say definitely clone.

I would assume once the conciousness is downloaded it could be beamed more than once.
