It's basically a thing of the past , at most. I mean now there's not really any comedians that are that good. On the other hand in the past we actually had good comedians. Even cosby was better than comedians now, and he , kinda sucked imo.

Well when everything has to be political correct, and you can`t make jokes because somebody will get offended. That is pretty much what you get

Just curious, mstreepsucks. What comedians did you like (in other words, didn't "kinda suck" in your opinion)?

I don't agree. Roy Wood, Tom Segura, and in my opinion, Chris Rock are still funny among many others.

I still manage to laugh at new stuff but then perhaps I’m just easier to please.

Just because oldsters like Seinfeld and Billy Crystal are whining about how they don't appeal to today's college kids, it shouldn't alarm anyone. That's show biz.

All the new comedy stand-ups on Netflix are comedians pretending they are edgy by making PC jokes, yawn. I have a specific sense of humor so I don't find most comedians funny but Steven Wright and Mitch Hedburg are/were among my all-time favorites. Andrew Dice Clay was a riot before he went PC. Rodney Dangerfield was hilarious, all the time. Red Fox was funny. Eddie Murphy was funny back in the day. Richard Pryor was funny back when but I watched one of his old shows recently, and it didn't hold up. Sinbad was amusing. The funniest comedians I've seen in the last 20 years were all on small stages, they can take bigger risks. The big names can't offend anyone or the backlash will put them out of business.

Kyle Dunnigan is merciless and hysterical.
Sebastian Maniscalco is gentler and very funny.

Comedy seems to go through cycles. Speaking for myself, I lost interest in new comedians when asshats like Dane Cook became popular. When I listen to stand-up, it's usually stiff from the 70s to the early-90s. There is an exception every now and then (I've seen some of John Mulaney's stuff that I like).

I gather this thread is TV and standup focused, not about the dearth of funny movies? (or is there?).
Total agreement from me on political correctness seeming to put the kibosh on a lot of comedy, even just real life joking, unless it's corner bar-veterans clubs-male drinking oriented, which allows some latitude, but from the college educated middle-upper middle classes it's like Revenge Of The Blue Haired Ladies,--only from the Left, and they're not that old, for the most part--yet they're as stuffy, intolerant of different perspectives on things and narrowed minded as the church ladies (and gentlemen) of the past--we're really in a rut with this, the rut of the absence of a Common Culture.

You may have heard of a little thing called tribalism, it's a real buzz kill.

I like David Strassman with Ted E and Chuck. He is hilarious and very talented with what he can do with his voice during the shows.
