I remember it was basically an MTV Western, the tail end of the ageing Brat Pack era. Nowadays, it's not that bad a movie experience away from all that pop culture baggage. Strangely, they seemed to put legitimate effort into their western motifs, & all that seemed to get discarded because of who was in it & when.
After Unforgiven, I'm not certain the genre received mass praise again until There Will Be Blood, The Assassination of Jesse James..., & No Country for Old Men.
