Money gives a short time happiness. but money will not bring you long time happiness no matter how much money you have.

I remember many many years ago when Jenny Jones was on, one episode with rebellious slutty girls who bragged how much money they made stripping, and in the opening promo they had one of the girls' mothers, or aunts, or sisters, saying 'fast money isn't always good money', which I didn't get at the time, how could it not be? Enter drugs into the equation, which every single one of them are on and hence the need to strip and make $1,000 a night, okay, makes sense.

There are miserable rich people and happy poor people so if money was the key to happiness there would never be any sad rich people. Nature did not create money. it is a human invention.
"I was aware that many men who have accumulated more millions of money than they can ever use have shown a rabid hunger for more, and have not scrupled to cheat the ignorant and the helpless out of their poor servings in order to partially appease that appetite. I furnished a hundred different kinds of wild and tame animals the opportunity to accumulate vast stores of food, but none of them would do it. The squirrels and bees and certain birds made accumulations, but stopped when they had gathered a winter’s supply, and could not be persuaded to add to it either honestly or by chicane. In order to bolster up a tottering reputation the ant pretended to store up supplies, but I was not deceived. I know the ant. These experiments convinced me that there is this difference between man and the higher animals: he is avaricious and miserly, they are not." Mark Twain

Tom Brookman (Cameron Mitchell): "Do you believe that money, automatically, brings you happiness?"
Schatze Page (Lauren Bacall): "No. But, it doesn't automatically depress me, either."

you don't have enough of it. One day there won't be any need for money. People will just take care of each other. I won't see the day, but let's believe

Money may not buy you happiness, but it can still provide you with a better class of misery.

Sure it can't buy you happiness, but everything else being equal, you're probably better off and have at least one less thing to worry about. As CrepedCrusader pointed out I can't see too many wealthy people who claim to be miserable giving up their money.

Money can pay your rent, feed you, put you through school, pay medical bills, entertain you, and let you have free time. In my experience, I have been able to become happier by doing those things with money. There are definitely other things that contribute to happiness though, like having someone who loves you.
