I have been watching "The Universe" on Netflix and in episode 2 they talk about how the moon is getting slightly farther away from earth every year, and that it will eventually shoot off into space due to an unstable orbit.
When I look this up, some sites do agree, others say this is a preposterous idea, and one site even said the moon is destined to just disintegrate.
Does anyone have a preference, alternate theory, or know anything for certain? I hope it doesn't crumble apart or leave us hanging, as that would speed up the rotation of the earth and probably cause big problems over time.

I hope humans survive long enough to worry about it.

I hope humans survive long enough to worry about it. Highly doubtful.

I hope humans survive long enough to worry about it. By that time, we should have colonized the Solar System.

In that case I hope the cockroaches find somewhere else to live. So do I.

I don't understand why anyone is worry about it right now...
Everyone that is alive today, will be long dead, before it starts to become a problem...
As of right now, Most of the people living on Earth, think going back to the Moon, or to Mars is a waste of time, if they think we can even go to Mars... Maybe in a few hundred years, Most People will think differently. Let them worry about it.

I don't even know how that number resolves offhand but it's pretty much more zeroes than anyone has seen in any number ever. If that's not fun to think about I don't know what is.

Is that what we are doing, worrying? Seems more like discussing but maybe I misread the room.

Maybe in a few hundred years, Most People will think differently. Let them worry about it. You never get to the moon or Mars if you don’t work on the problem, or ‘worry about it’ in the present. Such things take time, work and the thought of many people who will probably never live to see the results of their labor.
