People like to go to swim, enjoy the sun, get a tan, surf, play volleyball, relax, etc.

They like watching the waves crash upon the shore…

It's the one of the few places where you can wear less clothing in public and no one bats an eye.

Maybe they're attracted by the stench of rotting fish.

What's special about a beach? Swimming in the ocean is fun. Relaxing by the ocean is fun. Listening to the waves is fun. Watching dolphins in the ocean is fun. Walking along the ocean is fun. Going to restaurants by the ocean is a fun place to eat. Going out on long piers on the ocean is fun. Surfing and watching other people surf is fun. In the morning sitting out on the balcony watching the sun come up is fun. In the morning sitting out on the balcony listening to the waves while drinking coffee is fun. At night sitting out on the balcony drinking beer and watching the sun set is fun.

What's special about a beach? We have a place in the country on a river. We swim, boat and water ski. Trees give us shade. The water is usually glassy smoth. And we have no fear of sharks of jellyfish. Beaches might be good for surfing. But the swimming is tough with the waves. Jellyfish sting. And some people are afraid of sharks.

Although we do not spend time ON the beach, but like looking at the water, and occasionally like walking on it. It's relaxing. Like dining with the view. Like the entire atmosphere.

The ocean of course. And also the perfect view of an endless horizon not obscured by physical terrain or manmade objects. When I was a kid, my Dad was in the military and we were stationed in Florida for a few years... When we moved there, I was so excited to see the Ocean... But when I discovered that it was a dingy grey, the water felt yucky, and it didn't smell good... The excitement lasted for only about five minutes. Spend your vacation money on get a swimming pool instead.

He was in the Air Force and was assigned to Patrick Air Force Base. (Now: Patrick SPACE Force Base) which is just south of Cocoa Beach. He worked with the Range Safety guys, that made sure it was safe to launch the rockets from the NASA Space Center, and they were also tasked with pressing the self destruct button, when they went out of control, since civilians were not up to that task, especially when it came to the Space Shuttle.

Oh, Cocoa Beach. It has an annual phenomena known as upswelling.

Yes, the water is dirty but it's still a beautiful blue. I would frankly feel claustrophobic if I lived more than 50 miles from an ocean. I know it's all perception of course. But most of us live in such densely populated areas now.
At least when you're standing on the shore you're looking at a "no man's land". Sometimes I feel claustrophobic living in Minnesota. It's like right in the middle of North America. Oddly enough I feel a little better knowing Lake Superior is technically connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Granted it would take you seven days to reach the ocean through the St. Lawrence Seaway, but it is connected.

I actually feel claustrophobic when I'm near the ocean. I know I can't go any further and I feel almost trapped, like hitting a wall. Obviously, I'm not a fan of beaches. I also just find them kind of boring in general. Not my cuppa.

For me there's no site more beautiful than staring out at the sea at night...it gives me a sense of peace and serenity like nothing else.
