I don't know. I live near one and barely see it.

When I was a kid, my Dad was in the military and we were stationed in Florida for a few years... When we moved there, I was so excited to see the Ocean... But when I discovered that it was a dingy grey, the water felt yucky, and it didn't smell good... The excitement lasted for only about five minutes. Spend your vacation money on get a swimming pool instead. That does seem odd to me. I grew up and live near the beach in a Los Angeles suburb.
Yes, the water is dirty but it's still a beautiful blue. I would frankly feel claustrophobic if I lived more than 50 miles from an ocean. I know it's all perception of course. But most of us live in such densely populated areas now.
At least when you're standing on the shore you're looking at a "no man's land". Sometimes I feel claustrophobic living in Minnesota. It's like right in the middle of North America. Oddly enough I feel a little better knowing Lake Superior is technically connected to the Atlantic Ocean. Granted it would take you seven days to reach the ocean through the St. Lawrence Seaway, but it is connected.

I actually feel claustrophobic when I'm near the ocean. I know I can't go any further and I feel almost trapped, like hitting a wall. Obviously, I'm not a fan of beaches. I also just find them kind of boring in general. Not my cuppa.

There's no clubbing in Montana to speak of. It's very cowboy which can be annoying for a city slicker.
But I think the Great Lakes qualify as a mass body of water, ocean-like, if not part of the ocean.

But I grew up near the ocean, surfing and boating. So it's in my blood now.

For me there's no site more beautiful than staring out at the sea at night...it gives me a sense of peace and serenity like nothing else.

Because beaches are a fun and relaxing place to go when you want to go somewhere for a break or somewhere romantic with the person you love and there is the scenery, swimming in the water and walking on the rocks and shops that have a lot of things you can't get anywhere else.

Sometimes I feel claustrophobic living in Minnesota.
Loved Minnesota. Me and my girlfriend went with another couple and rented two cabins on Big Lake. He had his boat and we fished all week. Plus swim, hiked, cooked on camp fire, drank beer by camp fire at night. And it was great listening to the loons.
And it was the best fish we ever had. We caught some walleye and cooked them over the camp fire.

I like being at a beach, but don’t like actually going in the water. You can’t fathom the amount of bodily waste you are swimming in.

I like being at a beach, but don’t like actually going in the water. You can’t fathom the amount of bodily waste you are swimming in. Are you talking about a small pond or something? I've always lived within close proximity to some sort of water, be it a reservoir, lake, river or ocean (Pacific and Atlantic). I simply cannot imagine not being near water. What type of bodily waste do you imagine you're swimming in, and what type of body of water are you thinking of? Living at the ocean, it's marine biological life that surrounds those who delve in.

I know why white people love beaches: getting tanned.
Whites love getting tanned. They'll stay in the Sun for hours.

Every natural body of water has animal urine and feces in it. It hasn't killed anybody in 300 thousand years. Maybe someguy is a bubble boy.
