Can you imagine if it was made today in this era of PC and mandatory diversity quotas? Jesus!

It was one of the biggest gambles in movie history.

Because it still employed practical effects with CGI before completely transitioning for the prequel trilogy.

People just need to stop being so DAMN SENSITIVE!!! What happened to having a thick skin? If people want a PC movie they need to make their own damn movie!!! Why is it the movie’s fault if the characters are true to the source material?

Most people don't know this, but the Witch King was trans.

If LoTR was made by Netflix, Sauron would be seen as a victim of Morgoth's bad influence as there's no such thing as moral absolutes even though Tolkien said otherwise. Also, Sam and Frodo are sadists for dragging along a schizophrenic Gollum in chains and physically abusing him over his mental illness.

You can say that about most older movies. Nolans Dark Knight trilogy would be another.

New Line was not as big corporate as the other studios by that time. Jackson dealt directly with the head of the studio-these days the studio head answers to some other corporate chiefs.
New Line was low budget by comparison to the other companies. Plus in those days, the SPFX was harder to manage--which was an advantage Jackson had. He had his own FX company like Lucas-so he had more control.
Nowadays they would farm out the work to all sorts of companies and the director would have much less oversight.

Let me get this straight: You haven't been offended by a movie today so you're complaining about something that could have happened? If this doesn't prove that anti-diversity crowds are toxic, I don't know what will.
By the way, Middle Earth is a planet where groups of people are defined by physical traits. Each group lives in a different location. There are conflicts related to geography, beliefs and traditions. So... It's pretty much real life. What makes you think a diverse cast would ruin the trilogy? Or the prequels or the old animated movies for that matter?

Yeah, because dipshits would be whining that they increased the screentime and importance of all the female characters in the book, or didn't you know? Plus, imagine how triggering this 60 year old line would be: Does Miranda Otto have social media? Not for long!

Yes let’s change Sam and Gandalf to women That probably wouldn’t have happened. You’re right. They would probably change half the cast. Also, I’ve been hearing how Orcs are supposedly racist

I always figured it was pretty diverse. You have humans, hobbits, orcs, wizards, dwarves, elves, and dear God, cave trolls.

Amazon studios are already producing a Lord of the Rings series so you're wrong about that.
They already made the similar Hobbit films. These movies have a wide appeal. I doubt people care.

The first season of this upcoming LOTR TV show cost about $500 million dollars to make.
