This British guy meets people who go straight to asking him for money. Well, that old guy is on the level of an old homeless drunk on the street in the U.S. But at least he does have a house.
I don't think he lives like most Belarusians. I worked with a Belarusian engineer. He was Jewish and left the Soviet Union when the Berlin Wall fell.

Seems there's some people regulary visiting him now, bringing him things, and recording his stories. That's nice to know.

I learn a lot from Russian profs! it really is not true though, whoever was teaching you that was either joking or didnt really know russia too well or was talking about brief moment about a 30 years ago in a select locations.

It's outdated I suppose. That prof also mentioned her kids don't want to learn Russian so she left Russia a while ago.
