2nd best record in baseball belongs to...
the San Francisco Giants?!?. Their rotation is lights out, three starters with WHIP under 0.900. Buster Posey is having an MVP year, hitting .383. Brandon Belt and Mike Yaz aren't doing much. If they get hot, the Zillion Dollar Dodgers could be Waist Deep in the Big Muddy

Last I saw, they had the sixth best odds to win the NL.

Not loving playing the Cardinals with Tatis, Myers, Hosmer, and Profar all out.

This is a team that basically has a "beginning" lineup, then a "closing" one as well. The Giants get major contributions from a variety of players every night. A very well put together team, perfect for the National League style of play. And the starting pitching, at least so far, has been lights out. Gausman has become an ace, Cueto is Cueto, but also guys like Anthony Desclafani and Alex Wood have really emerged as top line starters. The bullpen has had a couple of hiccups, but otherwise has been very good. This sidearmer kid they got named Tyler Rodgers has basically been unhittable. Great starting pitching and a very deep bench are signs of a team that probably isn't going away anytime too soon this season.

Gausman has really been a Cy Young candidate so far. 3-0, 1.97 ERA, 0.867 WHIP. Becoming the ace he should have been in Baltimore. They rushed him to the Show and he finally turned it around in San Fran.
Tough to count out the Dodgers. Their farm system is so filthy rich they can make a few deals to improve. On the other hand, we all know how tough it is to repeat. And the Padres aren't going anywhere.

Brutal collision on the 1st base line between Hunter Dozier and Jose Abreu in the KC-White Sox game. It would have made a Top 10 hit highlight in an NFL game.

Oh, I ain't counting out the Dodgers or the Padres, I think only a fool would do that. This is gonna be a three team race all the way till the end. And it's definitely possible that all three teams make the playoffs.

The games I've seen Desclafani pitch against the Padres have been quite impressive. Rodgers seems to be practically underhand. How do you begin to pitch that way? What coach teaches that up and how bad does your overhand delivery have to be before it gets proposed?

You're right, he's almost throwing underhand. So far, it seems to be working good for the guy, he could easily make the All-Star team if they go with a setup guy. I think the only run he's given up this year was a home run to your boy Will Myers in a game at Petco. When you look at Desclafani's stats from his time in Cincy, they don't really jump out at you, but he's been great in San Francisco. Obviously, there's a difference in ballparks, that doesn't hurt.

Even in their 65-70-win doldrum years, they could always pick up some guy who either you never heard of before (Kirby Yates, Heath Bell, Brad Hand) or who was a reclamation of some sort (Rod Beck, Huston Street, Mark Melancon) and they have a guy who pitches better in Petco than where they had been previously. It's become a worry-less position, and I have to think the park plays a large role.

giants & pirates 1-1 in the 10th... That's now 3 potential wins for Kevin Gausman that the Giants bullpen has blown. Three different times when he pitched at least 7 great innings and left with a lead, but got nothing to show for it.

Giants lose 3-2 in 11 innings. Tough loss considering how great Gausman pitched.

Fishies/Dodgers underway, good pitching matchup, Alcantara vs Kershaw.
