I had my first dose of vaccine earlier this week (age group, 40 - 45) here in the U K, on Tuesday afternoon to quote the Moody Blues. It was the Moderna vaccine, which Dolly Parton contributed towards. I was always going to chance my arm as I feel it's my civic duty and I want to show solidarity. So far, so good ... I'm still alive and kicking.

A question for your doctor, Ebony. I've heard some people are told to wait if they are antibody rich, but then I know people who got it anyway. No one here knows your medical history and can't really advise you.

If you have questions, it's best to ask your personal doctor as opposed to an online forum.

Anyone who says you shouldn't get vaccinated should be summarily disregarded as the paranoid nutbags they are.

Anyone who says you shouldn't get vaccinated should be summarily disregarded as the paranoid nutbags they are. My mother's been asking since last year if I've been vaccinated, long before it was available to the general public, let alone to a generally healthy person in their 20s like me. As if she'll disown me if I did. She blames my sister's autism on vaccines.

She'll blame it on me and say it's my own fault.

No one here knows your medical history and can't really advise you. My mother hates doctors. She told me she didn't get me the eye surgery I'm now on a waitlist for when I was younger because she thinks doctors do it just for money.

Yes, I was leery of having anything put in my body which I felt was rather unnecessary as I'm healthy and didn't fear dying from covid. But we need to get the world back to normal. My boyfriend and I got first doses of Moderna today. I know I'm less likely to get sick again but I'm trying to contribute to the threshold of vaccinated populace needed to get back to normal. BTW, I was made aware of the clinic by my employer last night and the info sheet said individuals who've had covid can get the vaccine once their isolation and symptoms are over. I just started this thread to pick a fight with potential anti-vaxxers. The last guy I was involved with is one.

ebony You're a grownup now, and it's important to remember you make your own decisions regarding your own body by yourself without needing to reference your mother's choices for doing or not doing whatever she's done. Now that you're an adult, your decisions are yours and you have full autonomy over your own health. Take the reins and maintain that responsibility proudly.

I would. Back about a month ago, when I was on holidays, it was announced that those 45+ can sign up for a vaccine. I then thought....Oh, that's me! Got into a good discussion with my father about it. He asked if I was going to get vaccinated. My response was, "Oh yeah". The day of my 46th birthday, I signed up to be on the waiting list for one of the pharmacies for when they get the vaccine, which was AstraZeneca. Then, I kept seeing and hearing most of my friends getting their first dose - and they're younger than I am. I was beginning to think I was forgotten about! I called the pharmacy - just to make sure I was on the waiting list. And, I was. A couple of weeks ago, the family doctor's office called - saying the hospital was doing a clinic next Thursday. Of course, I signed right up. They were offering the AZ vaccine. There were stories of those receiving the AZ vaccine that got blood clots afterwards. This was VERY rare, though. At the time, it was about 1 in 250000. Still made me say....I'll take that chance. On the Tuesday before the clinic, it was announced that Ontario was putting the pause on all AZ vaccines. I thought....great - one step forward, and two steps back. That is - get so close to the vaccine, but now so far away. The office said they were going to call a day before - just as a reminder. I figured they would still call - just to let me know the clinic is cancelled. They did call - solely to say the clinic was still one - they were able to secure the Moderna vaccine. Had my first dose this past Thursday. Arm was sore for a couple of days after. I was a little bit achy and tired, but not any more than usual. I figured it was because I'm unwinding for the week as it was a Friday. Second dose set up for the beginning of September. Here's hoping the world will see some normalcy by then. Joker's Wilde

Joker's Wilde Wait wait?! September?! Your second dose is nearly 4 months out! That is wrong. It's advised that the second dose of Moderna should be no earlier than 28 days and no later than 42 days after the first dose. Your second dose should be around June 11.
