Leonardo DiCaprio is one of the few bankable actors still around. He tends to get a lot of buzz for his roles, and he hasn’t even done a single comic book movie or Star Wars movie.

Clint Eastwood doesn't do franchises you say? What about the 1500 Dirty Harry films he did? Yeah which started with him as an original screenplay-written movie. He created the role.
The fact that the character was so popular (with him in the role) does nothing to diminish his status.
Not the same as DiCaprio playing Howard Hughes under the direction of Scorsese--Tommy Lee Jones among others did the role before him.
Or Hoover. The selling point of that is him in the role of a famous figure. He's not selling it by his name alone. Eastwood did that more often--even as a director (ok Tom Hanks was involved in one so there's name sharing there). He chose characters that had not been made into movies--American Sniper and Sully.

Eastwood was more popular with audiences than DiCaprio.
When DiCaprio did Titanic (brand name-sharing--Cameron and Titanic) it made him a bigger star but he's not selling mainstream audience movies. He's selling arthouse and director-focused films.
He's not going to work with an obscure director and get a lot of attention.
Who went to see In The Line of Fire for Wolfgang Peterson?

Well there's only franchises now--and even DiCaprio did a few---anything with a known historical figure is a kind of franchise or brand. Howard Hughes or Hoover.
Also when you have Tarantino or Scorsese--so DiCaprio is riding on them as well. Not him alone.
DiCaprio did one adventure movie franchise--the Three Musketeers which was not well received--his performance at least, so I guess he won't be doing that again.
The Rock did the Mummy films and Jumanji etc.
There are no actors who can sell a movie just with their name. Eastwood is the only one I can think of who avoided franchises.
he said, thank god I wasn't a young actor today--because of the superhero stuff-although he did say the Sub-Mariner was his favorite.
Clint Eastwood doesn't do franchises you say? What about the 1500 Dirty Harry films he did? There were 5 Dirty Harry movies. The last was 33 years ago.

This is going to come across as a shock to you so brace yourself: I was being sarcastic when I pulled the number "1500" from the air, okay? It being 33 years ago is irrelevant he still starred in a franchise.

Long time ago as well, but Eastwood did Every Which Way But Loose and Any Which Way You Can, another small franchise.

He probably made enough money from those Spider-Man films to not have to work a lot. Same with Mike Myers. Of course they have enough money to not need to work, but I have read that Mike Myers' reputation has lost him a lot of work. Not sure if that is the case for Tobey Maguire, but I wouldn't be surprised if it was part of it.

Well it seems that he is hoping for a comeback. Even though he is not a nice person it seems. Just because you may be a good actor may not mean you are a good person.
