Looks like Phil has a 2 shot lead with 3 holes to go
How big would this be compared to Tigers Masters win a few years ago?
Half as big?

This blows away Ray Floyd and Nicklaus in terms of age. He's my age and from San Diego, so I've always had a soft spot for Phil.

Was great sports theatre. Phil at 50 the oldest major victor, on the longest layout in golf history no less, that's a great double to hold.
Crowds were crazy, yet I do think there needs more concern for space - the mob swallowing up both Phil & Brooks on the 18th was pretty intense. That should not occur in this day & age.

Funniest moment was when CBS posted pics of old major winners. Nicklaus at 46 in 1986, Phil today at 50 and Old Tom Morris also at 46 in 1867. Scotland in 1867 must've been a rough place, because the dude looked 138 years old. I have to assume the picture they used was from much later in his life, but it was hilarious to see onscreen.

Golf is theater. So is tennis and boxing of course.

I'd argue tennis and boxing are for people who like exciting rock em sock em theater with explosions and car chases and golf is for people who like a 4 hour silent play with mimes
But to each their own
We all have different tastes

Nice
Very hard sport to conquer. I was brutal. Enjoyed chipping and putting but could not drive to save my life. 1 out of every 10 drives would go far and straight. 4 would be ground balls like I was playing baseball - and the other 5 would have a horrid slice
I just don't get the fans
But again to each their own
I left it on as it was pretty much the sports story of the weekend and the course was beautiful - i.e. the surroundings, ocean, blue skies....

You don't conquer golf, golf conquers you 99% of the time. What about the fans?

You don't conquer golf, golf conquers you 99% of the time. What about the fans? Well - again - let me state to each their own
We all have different tastes and hobbies. I'm sure there's people out there who do not like my hobbies and interests
But -
I've told this story on here a zillion and ten times. I used to bartend at a Country Club in college for extra money. I had to leave golf on the 2 TVs for the members
Grown adults in bad clothes would walk into the bar and ask me frantically with looks of concern on their faces as if they were talking about their own children, 'How's Ricky doing? What does Phil look like today?'
Grown adults at the bar cheering and screaming for a 'Phil' and 'Ricky'. I got in trouble many times for putting college football on on Saturday and the NFL on on Sundays
Now you may ask - 'Well what's the difference between cheering for a football team and a golfer'?
Well - a team is a team who represents your city and area. And a golfer is a singular individual who happens to be another grown man. It just seems off to me to be cheering on another grown man when I am a grown man myself. I kind of equate it to wearing another man's name on your back with a sports jersey.
You brought up boxing and tennis and this is a great comparison. I enjoy both. I have my favorite boxers; however I admire their work. I cannot see standing on my feet jumping up and down screaming one on to victory.
And again - to each their own
Just seems 'off' to me

So you don't actually like sports. I mean I've suspected this for a while, but this confirms it. "I don't get it, why would anyone get excited watching sports?"

So you don't actually like sports. I mean I've suspected this for a while, but this confirms it. "I don't get it, why would anyone get excited watching sports?" I don't want to open up a whole can of worms here or bring this up for the 8 millionth time but is golf a sport?
And watching sports - sure
I get excited watching sports
But getting excited over another grown singular man who does not represent a team but represents himself?
It's as bad as wearing another man's name on your back with a jersey
Just seems off to me (at least for me)
Favorite boxers - Tyson, De La Hoya, Hopkins, Hamed, Gatti.......I love watching their matches; however cannot see screaming one on to victory. Same goes for Agassi.
Do I admire their work? Absolutely
But if you watch that clip above - the level of excitement by grown adults over another grown adult (who has 0 clue who they are and does not care who they are) - I just don't get it
But again - to each their own.
It's just always been polarizing to me
Fascinating case study

What can I say except golfers relate to other golfers and wish they themselves could be pros. It's difficult to relate to a football player for example as these guys are huge men and incredible athletes.
