...impossible.
Nothing new there, but I thought it was interesting. This bit however caught my attention:
Shouldn't it be "shipping me off to an uncertain fate with Jabba the Hutt?

The fact that George Lucas apparently included a clause in his contract with Disney that said they couldn’t release the unaltered versions of the original movies is the most George Lucas thing I can think of.

That always makes me laugh - The changed versions were part of his "original vision" and it's just the technology didn't exist at the time... Well if that's the case, why has he never gone back and tidied up the CGI on the prequels? e.g Was the Windows 98 background looking battlefield on Naboo really his "final" original vision, which can never be improved upon?

Check out the 1954 Prince Valiant. Star Wars is a remake of this FOX film.
You got a black knight just like Vader, you have a magic sword, you got a Han Solo guy (Sterling Hayden), an awards scene at the end just like Star Wars and the hero is a farm boy.
They wanted Flash Gordon-but once they saw they couldn't get it they just switched to Prince Valiant.
What original vision? It is a sci-fi remake. No wonder they didn't have a sequel in place. Gary Kurtz said that "May the Force Be With You" was meant to be medieval --Prince Valiant is medieval.

Just take the laserdisc/non-anamorphic DVD and do a remaster of it.

I own the 2006 limited edition DVDs with the “theatrical versions” of the three original movies.

But I held off on buying any Star Wars home video releases until I could get the theatrical versions of the original films. As soon as these DVDs become available, I snapped them up. I have no regrets.

Really, I've got it on VHS videocassette. I pirated a copy of it and the other two from the original trilogy in the 1980s. Although I was never really a huge fan of STAR WARS... I prefer STAR TREK.

I still have my VHS copies if I’m dying for the classic experience. Personally I think people overreact to the special edition changes but I guess I’m one of the lucky ones who has a choice of how I watch Star Wars.

I have those too... and considering that they appear to be the best quality versions of the originals ever released, I have no reqrets as well... I just wished they could have formatted the video for 16x9 TVs... Seriously, how hard could that have been to do in 2006?

Cloud City in ESB, looks so much better since they added windows to see the beautiful clouds and such... What I didn't like, and what most other fans didn't like, was when they made changes to what the characters did and a what they said... "Han Shot First!"And what they did at the end of "Return Of The Jedi", was blasphemy.

As for RotJ, not sure what you have an issue with there.

As for the music, they are both great and I'm glad both exist!

This has been debunked. Disney can release them if they want. I have heard... That the films were chopped into pieces when Lucas created his special editions in the 1990s... The pieces are still in the vaults... But they would have to reassemble the film. It shouldn't be hard to scan it all, into a computer... put the pieces in the right order... and then release it.

If that’s the case, I don’t see why Disney doesn’t seize that opportunity. It sounds like an easy way to squeeze some more money out of the original films.

Prince Valiant was a few years before the Hidden Fortress and a FOX film so there's no copyright shenanigans with it. It was known that Flash Gordon was an inspiration but they couldn't get the rights to it--Prince Valiant was also a famous comic strip like FG.
Secret of the Incas was not promoted as the inspiration for Raiders of the Lost Ark when it absolutely is and is also a Paramount film, coincidentally.
