The Jam. I thought they were way better than the Clash, but didn't make quite the same impact in the US.

Marillion. Think they were only popular in the UK.

The Kinks. The WERE big but they should have been up with the Stones and Beatles. For some reason that I'm not sure of myself, they were banned from touring the US from 1965 to 1969 and that hurt their popularity.
UFO. Just at good as the other metal bands of the period, Judas Priest, Scorpions, et al. Why they didn't catch on is a mystery

It took country band Diamond Rio 20 years to score their first Grammy award and the one that they got was for their contemporary christian release named The Reason in early 2011. It was their 13th nomination. They do also have five CMA awards and two ACM awards.
Country band Sawyer Brown only scored one Grammy nomination. They did score the 1997 ACM Group of the Year award.
Country band Black Hawk scored two CMA Group of the Year nominations.
God bless you and these three awesome acts always!!!

For some reason that I'm not sure of myself, they were banned from touring the US from 1965 to 1969 and that hurt their popularity. There was never a reason given by the American Federation of Musicians for the ban Saw a Kinks documentary years ago and I think Ray said it was because one of them punched an abusive TV exec. I also read their tour promoter didn't pay them what was promised, so they asked for an up front payment for a show, didn't get it so pulled out. The promoter then reported them to the Federation.

Marillion. Think they were only popular in the UK. Do all right in Europe, but European prog was never much of a success in the US with a few exceptions. Used to see the Fish incarnation back in 79/80 when they were just starting playing the London Marquee, would chat to them before some of the gigs, seemed nice guys if quiet. Marillion after Fish were a totally different kettle of (pardon the pun) fish, and more AOR/MOR so that would have been the ideal time to hit America, but it's just too costly to take on for a band that size. They pretty much entirely self fund through their fan base and touring the States just isn't viable apart from a handful of dates here and there.

Indeed, even better than Lizzy's Live And Dangerous which is rather fake anyway. There was a "Strangers" box set released a few months back with a couple of other full gigs from the tour on it.
