Was gonna update my list after I saw Mortal Kombat, which stupidly isn't on HBO Max anymore. The Suicide Squad -8/10 Judas and the Black Messiah -8/10 Candyman -7/10 Zack Snyder's Justice League -7/10 Batman: The Long Halloween Part 1 -7/10 Batman: The Long Halloween Part 2 -7/10 Black Widow -7/10 Old -6/10 A Quiet Place Part 2 -6/10 Godzilla vs Kong -6/10 Feat Street 2: 1978 -5/10 Fear Street 3: 1666 -5/10 Coming 2 America -5/10 F9 -5/10 Fear Street: 1994 -4/10 Tom and Jerry -4/10 Spiral -3/10 Cruella -3/10 Don't Breathe 2 -2/10 Wrong Turn -2/10 The second half of Mortal Kombat is just awful. It is a big incomprehensible mess. It can't be worse than the PG farce from the lesser Paul Anderson, could it? |

The second half of Mortal Kombat is just awful. It is a big incomprehensible mess. I like that movie.  It at least involves a tournament and has Johnny Cage. So it is far worse imo. I can say this about the movie...stuff happens in it. I don't know what was happening, but it was definitely some stuff.

Fwiw, found it a lot of fun and way better than the 1995 one, except for that Lui Kang being way better than this C-Pop version.

We like what we like. I went into the movie wanting to like it, but ended up being completely bored by it. Pretty much. I was more concerned with it being faithful to the spirit and fights of the game than the "plot", which was basically just Enter the Dragon. Was never bored. It was too amusing, both intentionally (Kano) and unintentionally (anytime it tried to take itself too seriously). It isn't the worst thing I have ever seen, nor the worst movies of the year. I was okay with the first 30 minutes or so and I like Kano in the movie and Sonya Blade is alright, but everything else was incoherent to me. You bring up the fights for example. They are appropriately violent, but badly edited and shot based on my taste. Besides the violence, even the fights bored me. I certainly wish the 1995 movies was a hard R in terms of violence, but I enjoy it for what it is...cheesy fun. Most importantly I like the performances in the 1995 movie. I actually care what happens to the characters in that movie. Even the first half which is just them exploring outworld is a lot of fun.
