I have written five novels
but i have never tried to publish them, as i don`t think any of them are good enough to be published.

I wrote a novel in 2015 about a presidential election. The Russians hack a think tank's server and release damaging information, the election is hotly contested, protests and riots ensue, some states threaten to secede, there's concern over military intervention.
No one was interested.

The guy who wrote “The Martian” published it online for free at first. After if achieved some measure of success, he got a deal with a publisher. Harry Potter was rejected many times before finding a publisher.

I have toyed with the idea. I have written one and a half screenplays, but never as much as a short story. I don’t think my prose is nearly good enough.
Some time ago when the company I work for was in real danger of shutting down and everybody was telling me to start searching for another job, I made the decision to stay, thinking that if I lost my job, I’d take time off and try my hand at writing a book. I have a story idea that I think is pretty good.

i have a novel with a couple editors. funny thing is agents were pretty insulting about it. one said, this isn't interesting! editor said, i can't wait to read it! i won't have to pay 15% to an agent which is cool. i got publishers lunch/marketplace and researched the editors who edit the kind of thriller i wrote; so it wasn't like a shot in the dark. www.publishersmarketplace.com/

I wrote one in my twenties - a western. Sent it to a publisher and got rejected, probably because it was a bit pants. Had fun writing it though.

I've tried it about a hundred times or more, never finished most of them.

I just don't have the discipline to write something long-form.

About a decade ago I began to collect ideas for a young adult novel. I had a plot outline, pages of dialogue, a title, a good first line. And then...I just didn't have the ability and talent to put it together in a decent story. And then John Green's The Fault in Our Stars came out, and there were enough superficial similarities in its plot to mine to make my ideas seem unoriginal. And I'm no John Green, either. Plus there was a grandmother character in my story who had an obnoxious pet schnauzer named Sir Poops-a-Lot, a name which I only later discovered had already been used in some children's movie. So rather than risk any more unwitting plagiarism, the work-in-progress went into recycling where it belonged, keeping the remainder tables in bookstores free for other tripe, such as children's books "written" by celebrities.

This question brings back memories, when I was 11 or 12, another girl and I spent months "writing a book", we called it "A Motorized Chariot We Once Knew" - the two of us went back to Roman times and played havoc with the Roman Empire. Who knows what goes on in the minds of young girls. We would each write a chapter, we often did the writing in school and would break out laughing when reading each others' chapters and of course the teachers yelled at us. We did finish it and made a handwritten copy for each other, I don't know what happened to my copy - the other girl moved to California and we lost touch.

I have written five novels but i have never tried to publish them, as i don`t think any of them are good enough to be published. Writing 5 novels shows commitment. Especially if it is a series of books.
I have self-published a few stand alone books and I did sell some with very feeble advertising.
They say series sell a lot easier and one can get better advertising choices.
There are small publishers --depending on the genre but you can also do it through places like Smashwords or Amazon.

Yes. I've written some short stories and short film scripts over the years.

I have some ideas but I don't think I'd be capable of generating enough ideas and tying all the loose ends together. I have enough trouble writing songs.

There are a few I hit the ground running hard on but I lose my steam about halfway through and can't ever get back to them.

Thought about it many years ago, but didn't. Got much more interested in film. Have written two screenplays and have at least three more ideas I hope to get to at some point.
