I own four right now so well over 25 in my lifetime. Can't believe so many adults on here that have never owned a car or even know how to drive. It's really not that hard or scary to learn to drive. Some people never actually feel the need to learn how to drive and, if they might have certain difficulties that might cause problems on the road, perhaps it’s best if they don’t drive. It’s not like there aren’t more than enough cars out there anyway. you probably had access to mass transit, stamm farm living doesn't have the same access. lol

1993 Camry that was a gift from my grandparents. It was already 10 years old when I got it and I kept it for another 10 years. 2007 Camry also from my grandparents, but bought at a discount. Took 6 months to get the old person smell out of it. If you do the math that one was also middle aged when I got it but very low mileage. I sold that one for more than it was worth in January. Now I've got a 2021 Tesla Model 3. The first new or actually nice car I've ever had. I guess my wife's cars have technically been in my name too but since I almost never drive them I wouldn't consider it mine. my friend has a tesla, uncreative and loves it!! The DeLorean doors! so cool. congrats on your Tesla!! I definitely can't afford the Model X with those doors. It would be too big of a vehicle for me anyway.

Since circa 1970: Toyota Corona Toyota Celica ... Honda Prelude ... , at first, but the transmission caused endless problems. Toyota Pickup ... my brother signed it over to me, for use after the Prelude transmission headaches. Toyota Corolla ... I'm in again.

I learned to drive on a tractor when I was 12. how did you learn poelzig? I'm sure everyone has a valid reason why they never learned. My dad taught me when I was in my early teens. I should point out I'm not some pompous car collector altho one of my neighbors has several vintage autos that he keeps in a large climate controlled garage. I would estimate he has 300K worth of cars minimum. He's in his 70s and (heres the wacky part) he only has one eye!! I have one expensive luxury sedan that I rarely drive, one nice dependable great mileage mid size that I drive often, one SUV that I do labor intensive stuff in and also use fairly often and an older dependable mid size that I own and pay insurance etc... but my younger sister uses and has at her house. I'm a soft touch for friends and family. I'm sure my nieces who I adore will get free cars too when they are old enough. They are both the sweetest cutest children ever.

Also if you have medical issues driving is probably not a great idea either. It might be fun to do a day trip and get out of the city tho. All alone in your auto touring the English countryside sipping on an ice cold Buckfast. I know a request for ice usually gets only a confused stare in Europe but I do remember having cold beverages all over Europe. Granted I've never visited in summer but have been there for Queens Day in Amsterdam often.

I'm only driving each about a thousand miles/ year : Mostly because of covid. Both batteries are needing to be charged every so often. How do you keep your collection charged? thanks poel!! PS I'd love to have the one eyed guys climate controlled garage. I've lost pictures to sun. Course, I'd probably totally be a hoarder. lol

My Dad, who was born in 1914, didn't remember being "taught" how to drive. He lived in rural Nevada. There were some cars around ... and, they just drove. There was no licensing, no age limitation, no DMV, etc.. It must have been similar to the introduction on riding a bicycle.
A college roommate said the same of her Dad who grew up in Idaho. (The first time he drove, he hit a cow. There was no harm done to the cow, or even the car. He didn't have much speed going, and the cow wasn't injured, although, she must have been a bit irritated.)
The "Dads," of my generation were great driving teachers. I think that's because driving was "second nature," to them.

My issues aren’t medical (unless being a bag of nerves is a medical condition) but I know I’d make a rubbish driver and, as my brother died after being hit by a van, I have this dumb fear of hitting and perhaps killing a pedestrian. I enjoy exploring the Greater London area by foot and public transport (which is free now I’m over 60) and if I want a quick shot of nature there’s Epping Forest which is a good 20 minute walk away from my house.

I learnt to drive pretty late (around 30). Only ever owned one car myself, but have used others owned by partners or supplied by work.

Condolences about your brother. I did a little research on Epping Forest which seems a really great place to commune with nature. It also seems a bit creepy what with 39 bodies being discovered there. I can only hope those bodies weren't all discovered together at one time.

PS I'd love to have the one eyed guys climate controlled garage. I've lost pictures to sun. Course, I'd probably totally be a hoarder. lol The older niece and her mom, my younger sister, lived with me when she was a few months old until she was almost two. The father can be a bit sketchy and isn't always fond of work. I would love her regardless of course but due to seeing her daily during that time I am hopelessly wrapped around her finger. Her sister wasn't born until my first niece was five so there is a degree of jealousy and not wanting to "share" uncle with what she views as an interloper. She's a good sister tho most of the time. Having nieces and nephews are better than having your own kids in my opinion. You get to always be the good guy and spoil them rotten and rarely have to be the one to punish them and their mom or dad has to be the "mean one". My sister is not as amused as I am tho when one of the "babies" comes running to me teary eyed and my response is always "What did you do these perfect little angels to make them cry?" As for your vans do you have a spouse or partner or person who lives with you? If yes then have that person drive or at least start each van every few days and let it idle. If no partner then its up to you to start the vans every few days which I understand is probably not that easy. The other option is have a remote starter installed on each vehicle allowing you to start the vans without having to get into them and let them idle for a while every few days. Not a perfect solution I know but better than the batteries being dead when you're ready to use the vans.

3. I used to drive quite a lot, and I'd put at least 20k miles on my car per year. I like driving, rolling down the windows and cranking up the radio, and driving through the pretty countryside. It's relaxing, and it's a good opportunity to sit still and just contemplate life. I miss those long road trips.

Somehow that became my responsibility. lol I will drive it every two days or so.. or start it like you suggested. We have an attached garage and I'm afraid of fumes coming into our home. but I'll have to be more diligent. You should get Uncle of the Year!! lol touched me!

Human traffickers should be put down like rabid dogs. It's despairing that some people will literally do anything for money even enslave children.
