My goodness, what a silly action film. The performances and dialogue are at times ridiculous. And yet, it's strangely watchable. Even though the movie borrows a lot from Robocop and Terminator 2. I guess you could say the action is decent at least. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Universal Soldier (1992) - 2 out of 4 stars"Van Damme and Lundgren--well, it's not exactly Tracy and March in INHERIT THE WIND. Hunks are well cast as rival cyborgs (in a runaway government experiment, natch) whose human components hated each other during Vietnam. Has the requisite number of explosions. The director slyly keeps the grocery store Muzak going during Lundgren's one big emoting scene--right after he eats raw meat from a bin. Followed by three "official" sequels and two DVD spinoffs.

Dumb but enjoyable actioner. The diner scene was hilarious. Ally Walker was smokin' hot.
This was released in July of 1992, and from what I remember that was not a particularly good year for summer movies.
