I am much more of a fan of animated shows as you can probably tell. I need to get around to It's Always Sunny in Philadelphia. I have seen a few episodes here and there.

Interesting ! Love everyone's Hi-5's ! Do we need to distinguish between a Series Lead or a Lead Character that holds the series together ? Hawkeye Pierce - MASH (and honourable mention to Klinger , in a show with many standouts) Maxwell Smart - Get Smart Merril Stubing - The Love Boat Frasier Crane - Frasier Cosmo Kramer - Seinfield (in a show with many standouts)
Daenerys Targaryen - Game Of Thrones (and honourable mention to Tyrian Lannister , in a show with many other standout ladies) Honourable mentions to Lagertha and Ragnar of Vikings (in a show with many standouts)
I'm surprised you're the first person to mention Kramer.

Here is my ranking of all the characters mentioned so far from shows I have watched.
Jesse Pinkman - Breaking Bad Adrian Monk - Monk Frasier Crane- Cheers, Frasier Fox Mulder - The X-Files Eric Cartman & Butters (tie) - South Park Niles Crane - Frasier Detective Rustin Cohle - True Detective Batman - Batman: The Animated Series Dana Scully - The X Files Cosmo Kramer - Seinfield George Costanza - Seinfeld Sheldon Cooper - The Big Bang Theory Michelle - Full House Screech - Saved By The Bell Hans Moleman - The Simpsons
I am a fan of all these characters, with the possible exception of Screech. Hans Moleman is last because I am sort of indifferent to his character and he is such a minor character that it is hard to even rank him. He is amusing and has his place though.

George Costanza - Seinfeld Butters - South Park Hans Moleman - The Simpsons Judah - Bojack Horseman Abed - Community I just watched this video and maybe I wasn't giving his character enough credit. The reason I am sort of indifferent to his character is that you could remove his character from the show and not much would change. To me he has always come across as a running joke about how unfortunate his life is.

I also wanted to add Catherine of Aragon from The Tudors, Alex Keaton, George Jefferson and Archie and Edith Bunker. Such a great character. A character I don't believe could actually exist in reality, but is such a fascinating fiction. The whole set up is great. A sociopath who has an overwhelming and uncontrollable need to kill, who's father teaches him to focus on only killing other human monsters. One thing I specifically like is that he teaches him to be positive that the person he is killing is actually guilty of atrocities, which allows for the more interesting detective side of the character.

He obviously hasn’t been used as much as pretty much every other side character in the show, but he’s never annoyed me either. And nearly every other character has irritated me at some point. He both breaks and warms my heart in every appearance.

I like when characters annoy me as long as it isn't all the time and not in any huge way, because that is what makes them feel more real. For me he just kind of exists as a sometimes funny background character and the writing of his character is just kind of depressing.

Just seeing your avatar makes me smile.

For a long time he and Randy were tied as my favourites, but Randy has gotten too much. Randy is great too, but Cartman is easily 1st or 2nd depending on my mood. I am prone towards more sociopathic cartoon characters, because they are often the funniest. I have a dark sense of humor and they are able to tap into that the best. My favorite episodes of South Park are when Cartman and Butters can play off one another, such as the Awesome-O episode. They are the exact opposite of eachother and make for the perfect odd couple type pairing.

The Death of Eric Cartman and Casa Bonita are two of my absolute favorites and they both have that Cartman/Butters pairing as well.
