Originally intended as a reboot, it ended up merging with the original films. Wonder what direction this franchise would’ve taken if they had kept it as a reboot A great movie imo. McAvoy and Fassbender provided a breath of fresh air after the last 2 films, which were disappointing. Bacon was an interesting villain. Thinkk this took some ideas from the scrapped “X-Men Origins: Magneto” film.

I like it when it focuses on Magneto and Xavier but the other characters are pretty irritating. Still a good step in the right direction after Last Stand and Origins

7/10. McAvoy and Fassbender were great. Funny cameo by Wolverine. Kevin Bacon was solid as the villain and some of his henchmen have interesting powers. The first iteration of the X-Men were kind of bland though. Jennifer Lawrence actually isn't bad in her first outing as Mystique but you see her interest dissipate with each appearance later.

This needs a re-watch because I remember liking this movie a lot. McAvoy and Fassbender made the roles of Xavier and Magneto their own. The 1960s settings was fun throwback to the classic James Bond era. One issue I have is when Shaw kills Darwin, a mutant whose is seemingly unkillable because his powers can expand to adapt to new threats. Overall, it was a return to form for the franchise. Back in 2017, Matthew Vaughn did explain his original intentions. His second film would have been a direct sequel set in the 1970s and introduce a younger actor as Wolverine. Days of Futures Past would have been the final installment of the trilogy. When Vaughn relinquished the director's chair, Simon Kinberg and Bryan Singer went straight ahead into adapting Days of Future Past.
