first off the dad played by William Petersen is such an uptight asshole that you can't help but root for Mark Wahlberg to skewer him at the end lmao. These type of thrillers were the rage back then after the success of Fatal Attraction but now they seem exclusively made for the Lifetime Network. Fear was a better than I expected with genuine good performances from Wahlberg and Reese Witherspoon and the final home invasion scene was well done starting with a genuinely disturbing moment where a dog's head is sent through the doggy door. The film is also well shot and looks cinematic and has a nice score from Carter Burwell with a soundtrack featuring Bush and The Sundays. If you want some 90s nostalgia, to see early roles for Wahlberg and Witherspoon, and a fun enough thriller, this should do the trick.

It's an okay thriller.
Some of it comes off as more silly than suspenseful and none of the characters are particularly interesting or even likable, but it's okay for what it is.
I haven't seen it in 15 years, but these stalker relationship type movies are generally my least favorite from the genre.

When Mark Whalberg is mentioned, do my thoughts consider Ted? Three Kings? The Truth About Charlie?
Noooo…
My thoughts on the actor will always prioritize to that close up in the spyhole.

I enjoyed it. Mark Wahlberg gives a flamboyant yet delirious role.

I think its a decent movie.
I have seen it twice, first time in 1997 or 1998 and again in 2018 or 2019.

Anyone else have memories of seeing this? I saw Fear in the theater, and I remember a couple of girls screaming their heads off during the dog head scene. Overall I thought this teenaged Fatal Attraction was a decent thriller, and Wahlberg gave a chilling performance. The home invasion scene recalls the finale in Straw Dogs.

Fear reminded me of some of those home invasion movies that we saw in the 90s like Bad Influence, Pacific Heights and Unlawful Entry.
Fear is a terrfic thriller anchored by a great psychotic turn from Wahlberg. He should play more villains.
