I fully agree with you. However, it should be noted that the book cases shown in the OP are as real as anything in a library or anything you can find at a furniture store. The materials used to store books vary considerably (e.g. steel, wood, aluminum, plastic) and so do the designs. It seems to me that book enclosures are not required to be exclusively orthogonal with perfectly horizontal shelves arranged in perfectly vertical columns. No, there are many other design possibilities. Don't get me wrong. I am in no way ridiculing those who prefer book cases of a mundane appearance. It's just that there are other possibilities.
