We have a television movie review series here in the UK called 'Film ... [Insert Current Year]' which has been presented by Barry Norman, Jonathan Ross and Claudia Winkleman over the years, among othes. This list of hosts also includes part-time contributor Antonia Quirke.
Quirke is one of my favourite film theorists and author of the film fantasist's handbook 'Madame Depardieu And The Beautiful Strangers' (she says she went to convent school and this informed her writings in the book). She is also good friends with English film critic Danny Leigh whom I like a great deal.
Anyway, with no further ado, here's the list she submitted to 'Sight & Sound' for their regular polls of filmmakers and film writers' favourite movies. I'm also sharing this as I'm a horror nut and Ms. Quirke clearly enjoys explorations of voyeurism and a good scare!
Antonia Quirke : 10 Favourites
01. 'Nosferatu : A Symphony Of Horror' (1922 - F.W. Murnau)
02. 'King Kong' (1933 - Merian C. Cooper & Ernest B. Schoedsack)
03. 'On The Waterfront' (1954 - Elia Kazan)
04. 'Rear Window' (1954 - Alfred Hitchcock)
05. 'A Woman Is A Woman' (1961 - Jean-Luc Godard)
06. 'Going Places' (1974 - Bertrand Blier)
07. 'Jaws' (1975 - Steven Spielberg)
08. 'The Deer Hunter' (1978 - Michael Cimino)
09. 'Reds' (1981 - Warren Beatty)
10. 'This Is Spinal Tap' (1984 - Rob Reiner)

Nice to see some love for the original King Kong. At nearly 90 years old, it’s still a grand entertainment. The finale is also the stuff dreams are made of.
