Disappointing
Maybe he's sensing he doesn't 'have it' right now and wants to rest up for a run at Wimbledon which is right around the corner

I get he played somewhat of a marathon in the third round (didn't go 5 sets) - but he wasn't scheduled to play until Monday (tomorrow) - why not give your body a full day rest and then come to a decision during the match I go through aches and pains after jogging 10 miles - doesn't mean I'm cancelling my run 2 days later

This perspective always puzzles me. Yes, you can jog around the park in a halfass manner or do your office job with a twisted ankle, a headache or general fatigue and nobody will notice and it won't matter. Pro athletes have to exert themselves significantly to do their job properly, which is to play their sport at the highest level possible. They don't want to embarrass themselves or make a mockery of the game out there and more importantly, they don't want to make any nagging injuries worse. Sport and fitness is a hobby for us, it's their career.

I guess it means that even though this is his job and he gets paid handsomely for it - he's not a warrior like me because he quits over an achey pooh immediately after playing
Maybe he should take 2 Aleve Back and Muscle pills and man up
This tourney has been great for kids - what a message - 'Just quit when things don't go your way kids!'

This tourney has been great for kids - what a message - 'Just quit when things don't go your way kids!' And he wants it to stay that way as long as possible, which is why sometimes discretion is the better part of valor. 'Quit when things don't go your way?' He won his previous match. What's your message to kids? "Flush your career down the toilet so some guy on the internet won't complain." Anyway this is yet another example of you not being the athlete you pretend to be. If you played sports or ever had injuries, you'd understand there's stuff you can play through and stuff you can't. In team sports you can take the needle and still be an effective player even if not 100%. In an individual sport like tennis, which requires a lot of stamina and mobility to begin with, you can't just go through the motions at 70% out there. You're on an island, no teammates to cover for your deficiencies and you can't ask out of the game. And again, if it's an injury situation he absolutely should take the rest he needs so it doesn't jeopardize his future earning potential or his ability to add to his legacy later on down the line. He has no teammates to let down by calling it a tournament, he doesn't owe anything to anyone.

So athletes have never played at 70%?
So you've always got to be 100% eh?
Interesting indeed

Careful now - you're not a professional athlete so it's unfair for you to state this.....
You don't know his body .....

Good. Give somebody else a chance to win old Rodge. Hopefully this fresh young upstart and new kid on the block Rafael Nadal takes it now

What are the big three going to take turns handing each other grand slams from here on out?

Nadal won't play Wimbledon or the Olympics. That's disappointing. I hope he's back for the US Open

What are the big three going to take turns handing each other grand slams from here on out? I think Fed and Nadal are waving the white flag at Djoker. If Nadal can't beat him on clay, he doesn't stand much chance on grass.

Naomi Osaka pulling out of Wimbledon as well. "She is taking some personal time with friends and family. She will be ready for the Olympics and is excited to play in front of her home fans."
