Nothing groundbreaking here. More of the same from the Warrens. Decent spooky stuff. One big problem....why would the family leave the kid alone while a demon is actively trying to possess him? Like hey he needs to sleep...lets leave him in this dark room along for a while and not pay attention to him in case any weird supernatural shenanigans were to occur.

It was just alright, definitely the weakest of the series. I do like that they got away from a haunted house though and tried to do something different. I also liked the the witch and I wish she would have been more of a character and got some development.

I started watching it on HBO Max the other night but the quality of the stream was so bad I had to turn it off. The bad reviews really make me sad with this franchise, because honestly The Conjuring is this eras prestige horror film. I truly believe the original film could have and should have been nominated for multiple Oscars including Best Picture, Director, Cinematography, Editing, Acting etc. And I think Conjuring 2 is a very worthy sequel and nearly as good as the original film so it really let me down when it was announced that James Wan wouldn't be directing. Of all the franchises he has took part in, I think Conjuring is clearly the Magnum Opus and the one he'll be remembered for, I don't understand why leave the project in its third act.

He was possibly too busy with Aquaman 2.

I was massively disappointed by this entry. Loved 1 and 2 and some of the spin offs I either enjoyed or I thought were fine. The ones that come to mind that I didn't like were The Nun and the 2nd Annabelle films. Conjuring 3 now goes into that category.
My favorite horror films are the possession, haunted house types which this franchise has given me. I like having to deal with a situation of a ghost or spirit and this one its just a real person doing witchcraft. When it's a haunted house or a demon I dont need a reason as to why they're doing it. When it's a person choosing to do it I would have liked more of a story as to why outside of "she found it interesting". There was no real development to that character at all.
It felt far more like an episode of the show Supernatural where the Winchesters were dealing with witches instead of a Conjuring film.
I'd give it 3/10. Very disappointed.

I adore Wilson and Farmiga as the Warrens, and that's about all this film had going for it. It felt silly, whereas the first two didn't. I liked The Nun more than most seemed to, though.

Wilson and Farmiga were literally the only good thing about this movie for me. Just not good enough to overcome the rest of the film.

I thought it was fine. I don't have the same opinion that others seem to about this series to begin with though. I found it generally about as silly and bland as the other 2, and slightly less so than some of the 47 spinoffs.
Vera Farmiga is still wearing her ridiculously stupid blouses and Patrick Wilson is still furrowing his brow to make his serious face.
One of the issues they have is with basing them on real cases. You can just look up what actually happened and of course the movies are filled with ahistorical nonsense. From the get-go they start off by lionizing these two obvious frauds as the basis of the franchise, so maybe that's part of my problem, but in general I think I'm good enough at looking past that and just judging them as movies, but I still don't think any of them are anything special.
In this case the story took place in Brookfield Connecticut, but was shot in Georgia. I know it wouldn't matter to most people, but I'm very familiar with Connecticut and they try to play it like this town that's about an hour and a half from Manhattan is some hick town in the absolute middle of nowhere. There are farms and it's a pretty small town, but that felt silly.
Anyway, after the opening sequence with the possessed kid, which was kinda ridiculous, the stuff that actually dealt with this murder/manslaughter case I actually thought it was getting a bit more involving, but then in the second half as the movie shifted more focus on the Warren's and whatever ghostly satanic nonsense it was trying to shoehorn into this it slowed down drastically and get very dull.
All in all, it felt pretty much like par for the course for these movies to me.

I was ready to enjoy it but man, is it a stepdown from the last two. And you can tell that James Wan did not direct it. It also felt rushed in parts. Like there were scenes missing.

It's decent, but not on the same level as the first two.

I can't bring myself to watch this one. I think of The Conjuring 1 and 2 as horror masterpieces and even most of the spin-offs have been good in a B movie kind of way. I'd rather not sully that franchise watching one that's really bad.

The only other related one I watched was Annabelle Comes Home, and I prefer that over The Conjuring: The Devil Made Me Do It. Vera Farmiga and Patrick Wilson were likeable enough, but the film as a whole was rather tepid.

Happy to hear. I wonder what this one will be based off of. I hope they go back to the haunted objects and demon stuff. I was nervous the franchise was dead after how disappointing 3 was.

I watched all 3 but to be truthful I only watch them because one of my favorite actresses stars in them. Vera Farmiga.

Sounds like they're wrapping things up with part 4.
