"You know what the problem with Hollywood is - they make shit." Has it been 20 years already? I remember it being a popular DVD/rental when it came out. As for the film itself, it feels like people remember parts of it rather than the whole (Travolta's opening monologue, Hugh Jackman getting blown while computer hacking under pressure, Halle Berry gratuitously topless, etc.). It's not bad, but far from the best work from all involved. Hard to believe director Dominic Sena has only directed five films since 1993 with the last film 10 years ago (though he directed a lot of music videos over the years for various bands/musicians). So while this movie isn't shit, it's certainly nothing great either. Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review: Swordfish (2001) - 2.5 out of 4 stars"Notorious computer hacker Jackman is shanghaied by master criminal Travolta to do his bidding in this action-crime caper, framed in flashback. Some terrific post-MATRIX action moments and stunt set pieces are the only saving grace, as it becomes silly and unreasonably far-fetched. Derivation of the title is never fully explained, but we'd like to think it's from the Marx Brothers' HORSE FEATHERS. Panavision."

Primetime Grade-A junk food of a movie
The scene in between the two clips is hilarious, in which the guy on the right (@ 1:20) has to tell the guy on the left about the turn of events.
Hell, the whole sequence of the final chase has that "can't look away" quality.

This is the film where Don Cheadle was good and had charisma not in the MCU.

I enjoy it for what it is. A silly, stylish OTT action thriller.
Not good, not bad, but decent enough for a couple viewings.

I saw this at the theater and even bought the soundtrack but I literally have very little recollection of the film anymore outside of Travoltas TVR sports car and his monologue about Dog Day Afternoon.

An enjoyable action movie with a decent cast. This was made during a time when studios regularly made big budget R-rated action movies.

An enjoyable action movie with a decent cast. This was made during a time when studios regularly made big budget R-rated action movies. Luckily it seems like that's enjoying a resurgence. I noticed the uptick after John Wick then Mad Max: Fury Road and I guess to an extent Deadpool was the big "Holy shit let's make more of these".

The opening monologue by John Travolta is great, its a pity everything else after does not live up to it. The film has a great style and look though.
