A bit more about Black Manta’s role. "I think in the next Aquaman, I really wanted to put more personality into the character for us to sort of get to know him in some more private moments. Wanted to see [Black Manta] struggle with some things, then to see a bit more of his personality and character. Also, to see what it looks like for him to be in charge of something. So we get to see a little bit more of his leadership style, a little bit more of his personality in this one. And he's back for more, no doubt, in a big way." screenrant.com/aquaman-2-black-manta-yahya-abdul-mateen-role/

"No, it's fun," Wilson went on about the sequel. "The movie's gonna be a blast. We had such a great time shooting it, I will absolutely say that. And the tone, I think he took the tone in those moments in the first one that we enjoyed, and that kind of went beyond the comic book world in that they were much more really appealing to a wider audience, and we embraced that. I think we embraced the tone much more in this movie, we established what James established, what he wanted to do with the first one, it was clearly successful, and it's like, 'Okay, so now let's just push it.' So every little fun moment, every goofy moment, every heartfelt moment, every action moment, some of the set pieces are unbelievable, the stunts were crazy, fighting sequences are crazy, just awesome." comicbook.com/dc/news/aquaman-2-patrick-wilson-promises-sequel-will-push-it-exclusive/

Glad to read his enthusiasm for all things Aquaman.

Looks like we're going to the kingdom in the desert. (I forget the name, where they got King Atlan's message to play in a very FIFTH ELEMENT-homage scene) COOL!

I think he was alluding to all the controversy surrounding Amber Heard. I get it, but you know what? Amber Heard never did shit to me, and I don't care what she, or any celebrity, does in their personal life (Unless they molested children, there I draw a hard line). I care about whether or not they were ok as the character that they're playing, and I have to say Amber was a good Mera. If people are going to hate on a whole movie just because one person was cast in it then that's just stupid. She not even the lead. We're not going to the movie for her. We're going because we like super heroes, or we like Aquaman, or we like Jason Momoa. Reasons to see this movie: 1.I enjoyed the first one, so why not give the sequel a try? 2.The characters were cool, and I'd like to know what happens next with most of them. 3.The Aquaparents had one of the best love stories of any comic book film, and I want more. 4.Jason Momoa. He's a great Arthur Curry/Aquaman, I don't understand why anyone has an issue with him. (Granted, I looked forward to Affleck playing Batman, and when I heard Pattinson was going to be Batman, I thought he'd be good in the roll, so perhaps it's arguable that I'm easily pleased) 5.AQUAMAN was actually a very visually bright, interesting film - so I assume the sequel will be the same. 6.The not-inconsiderable-fact that this is a superhero that is NOT "just another white dude in a cape", so the more people go see this, the more studios will understand that people WANT to see that in movies 7.It sounds interesting, from what little they've said of the plot. Reasons not to see the movie: 1.Amber Heard is a turd. PROS outweigh the CONS. (And, if you are a Johnny Depp fan who hates the idea of supporting Heard, I suggest boycotting the FANTASTIC BEASTS film where he was recast cause of the controversy with Heard, if it makes you feel better to not-see a film due to behind the scenes drama)

Wan explained that having three extra months to complete work on the movie is something that he was thankful for. He wrote: “AQUAMAN and the LOST KINGDOM will be released March 17, 2023. Working nonstop, day and night (at least 15 hours each day), on my director’s cut from my home set up. Thank god for the big desk! For a movie that is nearly all visual effects, I’m thankful for the extra time needed to craft this thing right. Working with groundbreaking new technology, I’m blown away by some of the early tests coming in. I’m cautiously optimistic and excited, and can’t wait to share when the time is ready.”

Not following it too closely, but it’ll be interesting to see what happens with this trial. Won’t be pretty if it doesn’t favour Heard.

Though one should separate the art from the artist, in the case of Amber Heard both of those mindsets would result in my preference for her to not show up as Mera whatsoever.
She is not a particularly good actress.

Both Amber Heard and Johnny Depp are going to have a lot of trouble working ever again when all is said and done.

My thoughts, after reading the article (and being aware of the real-life drama behind the scenes)
-Maybe Mera did have a lot of screentime, as she's helping Arthur & Orm to get their kidnapped son (or nephew, in Orm's case) back from B.M., but WB could potentially scale her time back without harming the plot
-Mera was always going to die, protecting her son (which makes her a lot like her mother-in-law, and brings about Arthur being in a similar position to his dad 35+ years ago of raising a special, royal child alone) and her death also plays a part in Orm & Arthur's relationship as they are seeking out to save Aquababy, because Orm genuinely loved/cared about Mera and he may blame Arthur for not protecting her/etc. and Arthur will point out that if Orm hadn't hired Black Manta in the first place that the man wouldn't have this great desire to kill Arthur.
-Maybe the baby in question isn't even Arthur's kid. Orm could have had a child he kept hidden for their safety, or a child he didn't learn about (I mean, he does seem to care for Mera but he didn't seem particularly in love with her in the first movie where it was clear they'd grown up together and were betrothed from infancy kind of deal but was is romantic love on Orm's part? Kings have often had mistresses, perhaps he did and he got her pregnant) until after he'd been locked up, and B.Manta gets the kid, so Orm breaks out of prison, Arthur is also on the trail, and Mera is back ruling Atlantis and preparing for what happens if Orm and Arthur don't come back, so they are off on this mission to save Orm Jr. and still have all the resentments between Arthur and Orm, but at the same time seeing Orm being in a situation where he is just a scared father trying to save his kid will give Arthur a new perspective, and Orm getting put into some impossible situation (maybe he is presented a choice of 'protect Atlantis OR your child') like Atlanna was in all those years ago will give him a new understanding of his mother and of how cruel his father truly was to make her choose that way.
-Mera was never going to be in it much cause she's "in her confinement" and she gets kidnapped, so Orm & Arthur are in a race to save her before B.M kills her and/or before she has Aquababy, as they fear what B.M. might do to/with the child (kidnap the kid and raise him to hate Atlantis/Arthur
-Perhaps Mera and Arthur have broken up (it happens) and she went back to her father's kingdom/realm, Arthur is splitting between Atlantis and the Lighthouse/JL stuff, and Orm's in prison. And they have B.M. break into Atlantis, kidnap Orm and something he needs from Atlantis, and B.M. drops Orm in that desert kingdom, where he's going mad until Arthur shows up, and the two team up in order to go kick B.M.'s arse. And there is no kid/child, but perhaps there are flashbacks to something with Orm as a kid much the way we saw parts of Arthur's childhood in the first film, which would account for there being a 'boy who is important to the story', without it being Arthur Junior. That maybe Orm's father gifted him something, as a kid, that becomes an important plot point/MacGuffin for the second film.
