It's opening day for the 2021 Euro competition. It always features the country hosting the competition and that's why Turkey is in there.
Does Turkey have an ice cubes chance in hell? Doubtful. Maybe competition will improve in the coming days.
---------------------------------------
Tomorrow, Saturday's matches:
Wales vs Switzerland Denmark vs Finland Belgium vs Russia
---------------------------------------
Sunday's matches:
England vs Croatia Austria vs North Macedonia Netherlands vs Ukraine
--------------------------------------
Monday's matches
Scotland vs Czech Republic Poland vs Slovakia Spain vs Sweden
-----------------------------------------
Belgium vs Russia could be interesting. England's first match is no walkover. Is England the underdog? How could you miss Austria vs North Macedonia? Is South Macedonia a thing?
(edit) A total of 11 countries will host Euro 2021 matches this summer.

Usually I make a point of watching as many matches as possible during the big international tournaments, but for some reason my level of excitement this time around is very low. Maybe it will pick up after the group stage.

Is South Macedonia a thing?
I am guessing that "North Macedonia" was a compromise that Macedonia reached with Greece. For years after Macedonia became an independent country (after the break-up of Yugoslavia) Greece blocked recognition by the EU because they claimed "Macedonia" was historically a name associated with Greece. Macedonia had to accept the cumbersome name of "Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia". Now I guess the two countries agreed on the new name of "North" Macedonia, to differentiate it from the Greek region of Macedonia.

No way the Greeks are giving up ownership of bragging rights to Philip and Alexander.

Scotland’s first tournament finals in 23 years and I couldn’t really care less for some reason.

OK, thanks. My geography lesson for the day.

All 51 matches will be on US TV. They will all be shown on either ESPN, ESPN2 or ABC. It ends with the final on July 11.

Rather depends if they can replicate the form that has seen them beat and draw with World Champions France, beat the Netherlands and draw with Germany in the past 18 months doesn't it?

That was a handball that should have resulted in a penalty kick for Italy just before the half.
It's been all Italy so far but they've got nothing to show for it, 0 - 0 at the half.

Finally, a breakthrough. Italy get a good try down the right hand side, a cross is sent in and a Turkish player of Italian background puts it in for Italy. Own goal.
Italy lead 1 - 0.

Italy keep the pressure on and overwhelm the box on Turkey. Passes are sent back and forth on the right until a long cross is sent to the left side, a shot is taken and is blocked, the ball goes straight to Immobile who puts it into the back of the net.
Turkey 0 - 2 Italy
