The difficulty I find recommending these series is I think they both go downhill over time. Rather than picking your poison, you could watch the first couple of movies from both blockbuster franchises.
Maybe they could make 'Resident Evil In The Underworld', a bit like 'Alien Vs Predator'.

Somehow I went through life not seeing a single installment from either franchise. But as far as the leading ladies are concerned, I prefer Kate over Milla.

Spare yourself and don't bother with either.
The fact that Underworld has a 7.0 on IMDB sort of makes me sick to my stomach.

I'd go with Underworld over Resident Evil, something about the Resident Evil movies feel like they try too hard to be 'cool' while Underworld seems a bit more restrained in doing so, not by much though.

I guess, though I think the style is sort of ugly. I watched it when it was originally released btw. Blade already did something similar only 5 years before and much more effectively.

I like the first RE. The second is a failed comedy treatment. The third attempts a comeback, but after that: oh, brother.
Underworld: I think I've seen them all, but those memories have been erased. Will not revisit.

The first Underworld was alright, I don't think I saw any of the sequels. Same goes for RE now that I think about it.
