A variegated selection. Something there for everyone.
I have never seen #5. My faith forbids me to watch films made before The Maltese Falcon without special permission from the head of my order.
#3 I am not a great fan of M. Hulot. I am not an enthusiast for innocent humour.
#8 I sat down to re-assess Lolita the other night only to find either the disc or my player was faulty. From previous viewings I remember that it wandered far from the novel, that Mason was marvellous (his greatest role?), that Sue Lyon was hopelessly miscast, and that Sellars seemed to be acting in some other film of his own concoction. The photography is wonderful but some of the European locations standing in for US are a bit jarring.
As for the others on his list, you cannot go wrong. None would feature in my Top Ten, but I guess most of us would say that.
At least he resisted the temptation to include some Macedonian documentary on goat-herding, as Scorsese might have done to demonstrate what a f***ing know-all he is.

My favorite English language director, apparently not a big film buff as he would rather spend time creating his own work, cinematic or otherwise:
8 1/2 (Federico Fellini) - 8/10, wild and inventive, my second favorite Fellini after La Dolce Vita
Sunset Boulevard (Billy Wilder) - 10/10, probably my favorite film on this list, dark stylish and razor sharp
Mr. Hulot’s Holiday (Jacques Tati) - NS, Tati is on my ever growing list of directors to check out
Rear Window (Alfred Hitchcock) - 8/10
It’s a Gift (Norman Z. McLeod) - NS
The Apartment (Billy Wilder) - 8/10
La Strada (Federico Fellini) - 7/10
Lolita (Stanley Kubrick) - 6/10, not among my favorite Kubrick films
Stroszek (Werner Herzog) - NS, need to see a lot more Herzog

With the exception of Sunset Boulevard, The Apartment and Rear Window, they all sound like painfully dull, self-indulgent, pretentious crap just like his own films.

Saw Sunset Boulevard, Rear Window and It's a Gift. They're all a 7/10 for me.
