He is one of those actors that made every film or tv show better by being in it.

Not long ago I saw Burt Reynolds on a Carson re-run. Burt had just completed a canoe tour of the river used in Deliverance and he noted that the guide referred to one spot as "Sodomy Hill."

I'd like to watch some comedies with Ned Beatty this weekend. Maybe 'Repossessed' (1990) and 'Ed And His Dead Mother' (1993). I should probably watch him as Dean Martin in 'Back To School' (1986).
Beatty worked with so many directors I admire. When Spike Lee got to work with him on 'He Got Game' (1998), he visually referenced the work of Sidney Lumet, but was also interested in his work in Marvin Chomsky's television movie 'Attack On Terror : The FBI Vs. The Ku Klux Klan' (1975).
I like to think Ned Beatty's sitting on a cloud somewhere having a drink with Burt Reynolds and Charles Durning. I'll miss him.
R.I.P.

Actually DELIVERANCE and NASHVILLE were the two that came up first for me - haven't seen NETWORK for 40 years and don't recall him. But a wonderful actor. GRAY LADY DOWN was another good one - tense submarine disaster flic - although stolen by his former canoe partner Ronny Cox. WISE BLOOD and THE BIG EASY were also outstanding movies. RIP Ned - Love your work! With Lily Tomlin in NASHVILLE

With Lily Tomlin in NASHVILLE Check this great character actor out in Bertrand Tavierner's atmospheric and underrated, Tommy Lee Jones-starring James Lee Burke adaption IN THE ELECTRIC MIST (2009). Beatty is a treat as the oily, corrupt Twinky LeMoyne, and the supporting cast includes Levon Helm, John Sayles, James Gammon, Pruitt Taylor Vince, Peter Sarsgaard, Mary Steenburgen and Kelly Macdonald. The longer director's cut is the bee's knees, but the slightly shorter theatrical cut also plays well.

Another favorite role -- as the 'vitamin salesman' turned G-Man on the train with Gene Wilder in SILVER STREAK.
