The defending champs Portugal are the #5 rated team in the world. France is ranked #2 and Germany is remarkably down somewhere around #12. Hungary is in the '60s.
The group of death will march on. Two from this group will be very interesting in the knockout stages.

Predictably, every time Ronaldo is on the ball there are deafening jeers. Do they think he's a blundering novice who will curl up? He'll be loving this. It's one shot on target, from Jota, which Gulaski turned away, as the quarter-hour passes.

Pepe pumps a ball forward on '20 which Ronaldo latches onto. His finish is weak but it doesn't matter because he was offside anyway. Cue very loud jeering/cheering.

Ref Çakır has words with Bruno for molesting an opponent's shirt. Which seems a bit harsh when he's not spoken to any Hungarian player thus far for worse assaults, as the half-hour approaches.

Here's a rare break for Hungary as Lovrencsics bursts forth on '33, he's got support with him and it's two against two plus keeper. But there it is. It's played square, the pace dies, and they retreat back into their own half. Rossi goes mad on the touchline. "Get up there" he seems to be shouting. "Why are you stopping!" Now a free kick to Hungary. It's played into the box but it's an easy capture for Patricio off Szalai's head. That's one shot-on-target each. Here's the first card. Dias of Portugal for a high boot, which it wasn't.

Good work from Bruno who was determined to get in a cross from the left flank. He does, it falls to Ronaldo yards from goal but his touch sends the ball way over the bar before the break.
And with that, the ref blows up for the interval.

A second shot on target for Hungary as Szalai finds space and has a 30 yard crack - straight at Patricio on '50. Portugal on 70% possession at this stage. Which is quite similar to what Spain had last night, I seem to recall.

Let's have a catch-up with Will Unwin who is covering the game via MBM text.
Not sure that's completely fair. They've not been pretty, but look at what they're up against.

The first Portuguese substitution comes on '70 with an exchange of Silvas- Rafa for Bernado as they look for ways to penetrate this Hungarian wall successfully. And here comes Hungary with a counter through the middle. It's cleared from the goalmouth and then Patricio collects the follow-up cross in.

GOAL HUNGARY
'79 and Schon picks it up on the right flank and weaves into the Portugal area. He fires an angled drive low and hard and beats the flailing Patricio. He runs off wildly to celebrate but the linesman has his flag up.
VAR
NO GOAL OFFSIDE
Yes, he was a yard offside when he collected the ball during the right flank attack.

GOAL PORTUGAL
The ball is in the Hungary area, it takes a rebound from a Hungarian defender. It falls to Guerreiro who fires in a deflected shot for nothing-one on '83.

GOAL PORTUGAL
There was a tugging offence in the area and the ref immediately awards a penalty on '85. Ronaldo steps up. He's a good six yards off the ball. The run-up results in him sending the keeper completely the wrong way and places it with power to the right of the goal for nothing-two.

I hate Group F. The 3 countries I dislike the most in football will all go trough because Hungary is too weak.

GOAL PORTUGAL
Oh, you have to say that's excellent. The one-two between Ronaldo and Silva in the area was cool, collected and perfectly measured, rounded off with Ronaldo taking an extra little touch then slotting it past Gulaski with aplomb with minutes to go.
