Johnny guitar. Would you assume that the director is gay? Or not? I don't know if he was or not. I assume so though.

He was married four times, although I suppose that could be evidence either way. I would be gay if it meant I could marry Gloria Grahame. He would have abhorred American Exceptionalism, Maybe that is what you are sensing?

I would be gay if it meant I could marry Gloria Grahame. re Gloria You'd have had a better chance if you were her stepson... To OP - no - by accounts I have read Ray was rabidly hetero - so full marks to him for turning out JOHNNY GUITAR, which certainly has a gay sensibility and appeal - as well as being a wonderful western, noir, romance, blacklisting allegory, Crawford vehicle, melodrama, and out and out comedy - truly the cinematic gift that keeps on giving..... Gayer than BROKEBACK I'd say. It may be a shocker but many gay directors produced films which appeal to heterosexuals!!!
