Has anyone watched Ancient Aliens? I love alien stuff, and the show is fun. There are some interesting tidbits, enough to make it worth watching, but they are so FOS. I want to make a drinking game out of everytime they say "ancient alien theorists." They're talking about the 3 guys on the show because that isn't a thing, lol.

I don't watch "Ancient Aliens", but I do watch "The Curse of Oak Island", also on the History Channel. I've thought one could make a drinking game out of every time the "Oak Island" narrator says, "And if so". For example, "An iron hinge, possibly from a chest? And if so, could it be related to the treasure thought to lie buried in the Money Pit?"

I usually end up watching the gold miners on the other channel. There's a drinking game for you! Marathon the Alaskan Gold Digging, and take a shot every time the equipment breaks.

I think it's ridiculous because they think ancient humans were incapable of creating anything great. For example, they'll come up with some wacky idea that the Egyptians could never have designed the pyramids on their own without help from aliens. Why? They have a very low estimation of humanity and what we can accomplish.
FOS is right. I wonder if Oxford gives degrees in "Ancient Alien Theory"?

I was traumatized by the pics of the two dogs sown together, and that they lived for two weeks. It was worse than The Human Centipede. But because some sociopath doctor was able to do that, that means aliens did it too and that's how the Egyptians got their Gods. According to "ancient alien theorists." But the tid bit about them breeding pigs with human blood and possibly using them for heart transplants in the future was interesting. And horrifying.

I have seen it, its all utter BS. but its still fun to watch and see how wrong they are about everything. I am very stupid myself but these people are taking stupidity to a whole new level.
And have you noticed that its mostly non European cultures that have gotten help by aliens to build things.

And have you noticed that its mostly non European cultures that have gotten help by aliens to build things. I have really only heard that theory for a few structures, including Stonehenge. Europeans were much later btw. The pyramids of Giza were built 2000 years before ancient Rome or ancient Greece was even a thing and it was because of the seeming "impossibility" of the structures. I have never heard of ancient aliens mentioned for anything built in the ancient Chinese dynasties for example.

It's pseudoscience crap. Ancient Aliens is complete nonsense that's laughed at among academic circles.
It's fiction. I can't believe The History Channel endorses this garbage.

Well, I can't pinpoint the motivations for the more prominent advocates today like Giorgio Tsoukalos. Maybe he's just an idiot but the guy who jumpstarted this whole 'ancient astronauts' craze Erich von Daniken may have had his reasons for that: "...If we look to von Däniken’s work, there can be little doubt that his racial beliefs influenced his extraterrestrial theories. After a short stint in jail for fraud and either writing or appropriating the material for a number of other books that developed his ancient astronauts theory, von Däniken published Signs of the Gods? in 1979. It is here that many of his racial views are most boldly stated. British archaeology officer Keith Fitzpatrick-Matthews points out on his Bad Archaeology blog just a few of the many racist questions and statements posed by the author: “Was the black race a failure and did the extraterrestrials change the genetic code by gene surgery and then programme a white or a yellow race?” He also printed beliefs about the innate talents of certain races: “Nearly all negroes are musical; they have rhythm in their blood.” Von Däniken also consistently uses the term “negroid race” in comparison with “Caucasians.” hyperallergic.com/470795/pseudoarchaeology-and-the-racism-behind-ancient-aliens/Yeesh .

It's because of ratings. Former A&E CEO Nancy Dubuc has gone on the record saying that the History Channel is 'not an education resources. We're an entertainment brand'. Now to a point she is correct, but have some dignity.

I have actually read Signs of the Gods, and yeah that is a pretty racist book. Also i remember how he argued his points was pretty much this "Because i said so".

There was an Ancient Aliens movie announced a little while ago. I guess they never heard of the Stargate franchise.

There was actually a cross-over episode of the two shows when Tsoukalos and one of the Oak island guys, Marty Lagina went to Sardinia together.
