in other words, back in the day when television was simpler and better. As opposed to today, when television sucks. In other words back when you could tune in to your favorite t.v. shows at certain times of the week and just watch them. Even if it were shows that were off the air and it was only reruns of old t.v. shows.
It used to be better for t.v. in general but now all of that's gone.

Yes I do actually. I miss when I wasn’t having an agenda being SHOVED in my face. I can’t even get through Nickelodeon without seeing that dumbass commercial with “the country I see today is divided”. EXCUSE ME??? How the hell did this get past anyone? It’s A FUCKING KIDS CHANNEL!!! Leave politics out!!!
Cartoon Network I haven’t watched in years since it became the TEEN TITANS GO channel. Disney is…there. CW, FUCK THAT SHIT!!! You’d think with how much people talk shit about CW they would actually try to make a good show for once, but nope.
Yeah TV sucks.

To paraphrase Chuck Dickens, it is the best of times, it was the worst of times. It is an age of brilliance, it is an age of crap."
There had been some amazing TV done it the last 20-25 years. Fargo, Animal Kingdom, The Sopranos, The Wire, Boston Legal, Game of Thrones (at the beginning), Dexter (at the beginning). Then you have Naked and Afraid, Here Comes honey Boo Boo, Dr. Pimple Popper, Wipeout, The Masked Singer. And a lot of show I though were quality back in the day don't hold up well. I thought Happy Days was the bomb. Just watched it recently and it wasn't all that.

Tv shows are generally better today than what it was in the past.
There where of course plenty of great tv shows in the past, but the best tv shows made after 2000 are generally better and have a higher quality than the best shows of the past.
The exception are sitcoms, sitcoms where generally better in the past.

To me, the only thing good on TV now is Blue Bloods and Young Sheldon.
God bless you always!!!

Remember when kids could actually watch cartoons on USA?
Remember when you could find Bugs Bunny and The Flintstones on TBS and family sitcoms at a time OTHER than 5 A.M. when people were actually up to see them?
Remember when Charlie Brown was actually shown on TV regularly?
Remember when you could catch Lucy, Laverne and Shirley, George and Louise, Archie and Dingbat, and the Munsters, every night on Nick at Nite?
Yes, yes I do.

I think tv has had to dismiss the past in order to market itself.
I watched the Sopranos--is it better than Columbo or Hawaii Five-O? I don't think so. I think older shows that have stand alone episodes are more re-watchable.
I havent watched any new shows like Scooby Doo but I bet the original season intro song was better--and that's true of tons of tv shows of the old era.

Personally I think TV is so much better today than it used to be. And I'm a TV fan. Grew up watching old 90's and 80's sitcoms. I enjoyed them at the time. In some cases I still do. But TV today is vastly better. Dexter, Game of Thrones, Breaking Bad, Stranger Things, etc. These are all epic dramas we are so lucky to be treated to.

Huh... This thread has more "old men yelling at clouds" that I had anticipated. So liking something from the past better than what is out there today makes you an "old man yelling at clouds"? Is it possible that a person might just prefer those options? Should people not like Casablanca or The Beatles simply because they are from a few decades ago? And if they do, should they be mocked as out of touch dinosaurs? Seems like a pretty limited way to enjoy life.

I think older tv laugh tracks have aged badly. Orson Welles mentioned that in a Dinah Shore interview. He said those people laughing on those programs died years ago.
"Those merry peals of laughter wafting out of the graveyard."

It means complaining about things being different (usually with hyperbolic generalizations) just because one likes to complain and/or because one has an aversion towards new things.
