It's the antepenultimate 2pm kick-off of the tournament so make the most of them. Both sides without a point on board so you can perhaps expect this one to rattle along at a fair pace. Ukraine has removed the 'glory to the heroes' collar slogan from their first match shirts which so offended the Russians whilst NM has ditched the new burgundy which drew much criticism back home.

Ukraine is employing two men over the ball at corners, one a potential inswinger, the other a potential outswinger, hoping to cause a little uncertainty in the NM ranks. Two early corners have both put NM under pressure but they've managed to clear. It's Ukraine on the front foot after 12 minutes.

NorMac aren't getting the space they enjoyed v Austria and Ukraine has very much got their number so far, and you feel a goal is only a matter of time away.

GOAL
And there it is. Malinovskyi’s corner is spun in to the edge of the box where Karavaev executes a dinky back flick which goes through to Yarmalenko near the far post and he prods it over the line from two yards out before the half-hour. An excellently taken set-piece there.

GOAL
Well, that was easy enough. Yarmalenko collects on the right flank, plays a first time ball into Yaremchuk, completely bypassing the NM back line, and Yaremchuk pops it home for two-nothing on '34.

GOAL NO GOAL NORTH MACEDONIA
It's played through to Pandev a few minutes later. He's busted through the Ukraine back line, runs with it, outwits the last defender Mykolenko, chips the keeper for a wonderful finish. But he was, rather sadly, offside when he collected the ball.

BOOKED FOR DIVING
Shaparenko tears into the NM area. His marker is nowhere near him but he hurls himself to the ground, going down under thin air. Some of the crowd thinks the ref's blown for a penalty but he hasn't. The Ukraine man is booked for simulation...and then some.

That could turn out to be the dive of the tournament, surely, as the ref blows up on the half. North Macedonia unrecognizable from last time out, Ukraine applying themselves very well indeed.

Well, North Macedonia, with their two half time changes and Alioski dropping back, have come out showing us something in the first five minutes of the second portion. Coach Angelovski has had strong words because in the first half they were, quite frankly, rubbish.

PENALTY '55
Ukraine's Bushchan makes a save from a fierce Bhardi drive, he palms it onto the post. The rebound sees a tussle for the ball and Pandev is brought down.
GOAL
Alioski steps up for North Macedonia. He fires. It's blocked by the keeper but Alioski redeems himself by burying the parried ball for 2-1.

Now Yarmalenko goes down in one of the most theatrical displays of fakery/exaggeration you will see in the tournament. Musliu and Yarma see the ball go out of play for a throw-in. Musliu offers a genuine touch on the head of Yarmalenko, a tousle of the hair and nothing more - in fact Musliu is walking away - but Yarmalenko seizes on the gesture and goes down clutching his face. The nearby linesman glances at Musliu and shakes his head as if to say "It's nothing". Yarmalenko gets up and carries on.
Why?

A couple of telling substitutions for Ukraine as Macedonia push, yes push, for the leveller with 20 minutes to go. Yarmalenko and Yaremchuk go off, replaced by a winger and a forward.

VAR CHECK
The ref holds up play while he listens to his earpiece, much to the annoyance of the NM players who want to take a throw-in. What's going on? It looks like VAR is retrospectively reviewing a handball.
PENALTY
Oh, it's hands, it's hands against North Macedonia from earlier on.
Malinovskiy steps up to take it... Dimitrievski saves! He saves. They don't like scoring penalties in this tournament, do they.
Five minutes plus added to go.

There are just 4 minutes of added time, one of which we've already played. One more good chance needed for North Macedonia.

It's all over. Ukraine joins Netherlands and Austria on 3 points. North Macedonia's much improved second half performance wasn't enough to get them anything out of this, except that a lot more people around the world will know their name. They're almost out of the tournament, but not quite.
This was a decent entertainment.

North Macedonia needs Austria to see off Netherlands later, but as the fellow says...

And that's it. With Netherlands beating Austria, North Macedonia is eliminated. But all the same, I for one will be watching their final game.
