It was a very troubled production, and I'm sure young Steven Spielberg was constantly pulling out his hair dealing with problem after problem. But it all paid off as Jaws went on to be a huge box office hit, critically acclaimed, and regarded as one of the finest movies ever made.
10/10

I donno. I'm a Marvin fan but I'm trying to wrap my mind around him doing the Indianapolis monologue.

A well directed and acted blockbuster, even though I find it a bit overrated.
As far as shark movies go, it's the easily best one out there.

I used to be just somewhat of a fan, but my last couple viewings made me bump it up to a 10/10.

It did for beaches what Psycho did for showers i.e. made people think twice before hopping into the water.

I love that movie. It and the first hour of The Deer Hunter are the most realistic feeling movies ever made, both just look like someone turned on a camera and captured unscripted everyday life of real people.

If you can't admit Jaws is a great movie then the fact is you are going to ignore this particular great movie until it swims up and bites you on the ass. That's one of the best things I've heard on any of these boards. Absolutely right. Jaws has a permanent spot on my all-time top 5 movie list. Etched in stone.

Someone on here (RIP IMDB?) said Leo Gordon would have made a great Quint. I agree. He was doing a Quint-like role in Night of the Grizzly.
But Shaw brought a Shakespearean classical attitude to it. Unlike Star Wars, much of the movie is performance-driven. Spielberg never directed another-excluding 1941 maybe, where the cast were stars beyond one or two people. At the time Scheider, Dreyfuss, and Shaw were fairly prominent.
If Charlton Heston had been seriously considered for Brody--he seemed a little older than he should have been, but if he had, Gordon would have had to be Quint. I don't know who else could have been threatening enough opposite Heston. Chuck Connors? James Coburn?
Lee Marvin is not threatening enough. I think he could have done the speech it was written as we see it. He could have worked with Scheider and Drefuss. I think if Heston had been Brody, and an American had been Quint, then someone like Roddy McDowall would have been picked for Hooper.

Apparently Universal wanted to reboot the franchise. But Spielberg said no.

It's interesting that they wanted him involved. I guess it was like Halloween and John Carpenter or Raimi and Evil Dead. They feel having his name on it will lend legitimacy to it.
We do not need more shark movies.

It's good but I honestly prefer a lot of Spielberg's other movies. It's a middle-of-the-road Spielberg flick in my book.

Sometimes that movie, he looks right into ya. Right into your eyes.....so smile, you son of a bitch. This is not the time or the place to perform some sort of half ass autopsy on a film. You screw around with these boards and they are going to blow up and it proves that you wealthy college boys don't have the education enough to admit when you're wrong. It's only an average flick if you look at it from the water. Wanna get drunk and fool around?

While it’s great. Should there have been an epilogue where they return back to town and we see the mayor and the wife again?
