This post was inspired by my current viewing of Kong vs Godzilla.

Godzilla, but they are both good movies and it is a close call.
King Kong has a better story, but the 1933 movie is hard to watch with a straight face due to to the restrictions of technology at the time. The character of Godzilla is barely even in the original 1954 movie, so that makes it easier to take more seriously. It also has one of the greatest movie themes of all time.
King Kong (2005) is better than both of them imo.

Both are pretty close, as long as you are talking about Gojira, not the made for Americans one with Raymond Burr shoehorned in. The FX are actually better in KK, the stopmation actually looking better than some guy in a rubber suit. But both have more story than just some big critter raining a ruckus

Not a good match up. The worst Kong movie against the best Godzilla movie.
GODZILLA by a landslide.
Godzilla (1954) 7/10 King Kong (1933) 2/10.
