I think he could have been a bigger star if he had gone Hollywood early on. Great actor.

A strange and disappointing movie career imo. He became a straight-to-video actor after the 1980s and is typecast more often than any other actor I can think of.

I’m watching Superman The Animated Series and he is the voice of Metallo!

He is like Donald Sutherland spliced with Roddy McDowall.

I’m watching Superman The Animated Series and he is the voice of Metallo! He is perfect in that show and the writing of his character is surprisingly complex. You end up feeling sorry for him as he is going through this existential experience. Bizarro is great in this regard too and is one of the most tragic animated characters I have ever seen.

No doubt he'll be happy his fellow gemini and 'Pearl' co-star Carol Kane is also celebrating a birthday this month.

He doesn't exactly have the most discriminating film choices these days.

How is he like Roddy McDowell other than the similar last name? He is skinny but his voice is louder which reminds me of McDowall. But his face reminds me of Donald Sutherland.

I believe Caligula hurt his career big time. After that he mostly became relegated to playing antagonists. I really liked his performance in Gangster No. 1, he recently called it one of his favourite performances. Sadly it didn't result in a career renaissance.
Looking through his filmography there seem to be a lot of obscure titles. I wonder how many people there are who have seen all of his films? Any recommendations?

There's nothing wrong with being typecast. If anything the work is more regular you get paid more. Moviemouth is a moron. Unless another user here maybe politicidal can explain why being typecast is wrong.

Often times they'll get studio resistance and told to just stick to the roes they're typecasted as, so there's that.

It's obscure but THE CALLER is worth seeing if you haven't.
Just don't read anything about the plot since it could be spoiled easily.

Here's some movies I enjoy that perhaps aren't talked about so much, randomly selected from across his career ...
'Figures In A Landscape' (1970) 'Royal Flash' (1975) 'Cat People' (1982) 'Get Crazy' (1983) 'Class Of 1999' (1990) 'Disturbed' (1990) 'Jezebel's Kiss' (1990) 'Chain Of Desire' (1992) 'Tank Girl' (1995) 'The Barber' (2002)
'The Company' (2003) 'Inhabited' (2003) 'The Book Of Eli' (2010) 'Easy A' (2010)
'Vamps' (2012) 'Death Race 2050' (2017)

I just recently watched 'Cat People' (1982); I've also seen 'Tank Girl' (1995); 'The Company' (2003) and 'The Book Of Eli' (2010).
'Royal Flash' (1975) is one I've been meaning to watch, because I love the Flashman book series.

I find 'Royal Flash' to be a fun movie. In keeping with director Richard Lester's output, it has an anarchic spirit. I've not read any of the books but I like the movie.
