I seem to have more fondness for the film maker years ago. I re-watched The Sixth Sense and Unbreakable not too long ago and sad to say they didnt hold up as they once did for me. They are fine films overall but just lacked for me over time. But looking at his other films I really dont care for much of his work.
1. The Sixth Sense - 6/10
2. The Visit - 6/10 Only other M Night film I liked. I really liked the ending.
3. Unbreakable - 6/10
4. Split - 4/10 Good performance from James McAvoy but the film can get kinda boring. 5. Lady in the Water - 3/10 Saw this in the theater when I was like 17. Thought it was too damn silly and bizarre.
6. The Village - 3/10 Never liked this one. The end was good though.
7. Signs - 3/10 This one seems to be loved but I never enjoyed it. One or two good scenes and thats it.
8. Glass - 3/10
9. The Happening - 3/10 Good and scary premise ruined by a silly script.
10. Wide Awake - 3/10 I recall seeing it but dont recall the film that much.
11. The Last Airbender - 2/10 I knew nothing of the show prior to seeing this. Looks like everyone hates this film though. And yeah its pretty lame.
12. After Earth - 1/10 This was on my Worst 100 list but I bumped it off since then. Its a film I like or cared nothing about.

1. The Sixth Sense - 9/10 - Very creative, very well-made and very emotional movie with one of the greatest twist endings of all time, led by strong performances throughout, especially by Haley Joel Osment. Perfect creepy and mysterious tone throughout.
2. Split - 8.5/10 - A very unique and fantastical take on DID, with a very clever and unusual twist. Again, very well made and fantastic atmosphere and James McAvoy gives one of my favorite lead performances of the 2010s.
3. Unbreakable - 7.5/10 - Quality film and yes, another very creative take on a popular subject - the superhero genre.
4. Signs - 7/10 - This one is much more flawed than the above mentioned, but still very well-made, creepy, emotional and creative. Maybe his most fun movie though.
5. The Village - 7/10 - This is for the most part a clever movie about fear, love and lies that can be seen as an allegory for religion. The movie's biggest problem is the final 3rd of the movie, which is poorly written imo. The movie as a whole also leaves a lot to be desired in the character, dialogue and acting department. Thematically the movie is quite powerful though.
6. Glass - 7/10 - I should be harder on this movie, because it is a mess, but I enjoy it for what it is. It's a disappointing follow-up to Split, but still unique enough to recommend. The acting and atmosphere make it work as well as it does, besides Bruce Willis, who is phoning it in. The stuff with Samuel L. Jackson and James McAvoy is great though. I also really like some of the reveals about the some of the characters in the last act.
7. Lady in the Water - 6.5/10 - This gets a lot of hate and I understand why, but it still has enough interesting qualities to be mostly amusing and I don't think it is meant to be taken seriously. It is a dark comedy imo.
8. The Visit - 6/10 - This is a very mixed bag for me and I honestly don't remember enough about it to comment much. I thought the twist was interesting, but totally unbelievable.
9. The Happening - 4.5/10 - This has a good idea at it''s core with the man vs. nature stuff, but it is very poorly done. Mark Wahlberg is just terrible and miscast in the lead role. The humor throughout the movie is intentional I think, but it doesn't land at all. The tone of the movie is pulling in too many directions and the story leads to a very boring conclusion.
10. Wide Awake - 4.5/10 - Not much to say. A corny, badly written and badly directed first effort. The movie is more annoying than anything.
11. After Earth - 4.5/10 - On paper this sounds like an interesting idea, but it is very poorly put to screen and is badly acted by every cast member, especially the completely unlikable, bland and self-aware performance from Jaden Smith. A movie that focuses on one character for long periods of time, you need a very talented actor to make it work. It is at least a somewhat visually interesting movie, so I do give it some credit there.
12. The Last Airbender - 3/10 - I am at a loss for words with this movie. The best I can say is that it is almost amusingly incompetent to the point where I can sort of laugh at it. I wasn't bored while watching it, but I was thinking the whole time, "WTF is happening in this movie and how did it go so wrong?" I have never watched the anime show, so I have nothing to compare it against in that regard. I assume fans of the show hate every minute of the movie.

Hit and miss.
The Sixth Sense 8/10. Not exactly a "re-watch" sort of movie. For me, the moment I caught on was when the psychiatrist chased his wife's new romantic interest, the latter of whom drove off without apparently seeing him. It all came together in that scene.
The Village 8/10-There were two puzzles, or secrets, and while we know what the obvious one is, the secret the adults keep, that sidetracks us from the secret involving the younger generation. Kind of clever. And the logistics work well.
Unbreakable 3/10-snooze fests get 3/10
Lady in the Water 2/10 Preachy bit of hate. Like MASH, the story gives us a throw away Frank Burns character that just looks like the story teller "wants" to believe these are the characters, but only a two year old could buy into it. The story itself is goofy, too. It's a movie that rationalizes and preaches "scapegoating" That's as dangerous as it gets against Humanity.

1. The Sixth Sense - 8/10…the reveal is great but the part that always gets me is when he tells his mom in the car, and he says grandma comes to visit and her answer is ‘every day’…and you find out the question was ‘do I make you proud.’ I always tear up there.
2. Unbreakable - 8/10…slow burn superhero flick. Shyamalan has a slow quiet style and to see that blend with non typical superhero stuff is something I enjoy and it’s different.
3. The Village - 7/10…I always felt the marketing ruined this movie for most people, at least at the time of release. It’s a ‘period piece’ romance with suspenseful elements…not a supernatural horror like the trailer implies. I thought the two leads were great. The twist was ok, not his best since it really seemed somewhat irrelevant to the story.
4. Split - 6/10…good, McAvoy kills it and I’m a big fan of Taylor-Joy and those big beautiful eyes.
5. The Visit - 5/10…I remember it being decent but the biggest part that sticks in my memory is the moms reaction via FaceTime when she says something like ‘But that’s not your grandparents.’
6. Glass - 5/10…could be higher but hated the ending. The final half hour ruins everything for me. I might even have it too high.
7. Signs - 5/10…never really got the love for this one. Shyamalans slow pace never pays off for me here and I’ve always just been bored by it.
8. The Happening - 4/10…gets points for some cool moments but the overall picture here is corny, forced and when all is said and done not all that fun to experience. Shoulda went full B movie vibe here.
9. Lady in the Water - 3/10…I like weird stuff but this one just felt like a mix and match of a dozen ideas all spewed out into one apartment complex. Didn’t like it.
10. The Last Airbender - 1/10…it’s not really the quality I’m criticizing here but rather the failure to even come remotely close to the greatness of the cartoon. I mean the storyboard is all there! All you have to do is not fuck it up and somehow…he fucked it up. The cartoon is amazing…if you feel yourself wondering about this movie, just go watch the cartoon. It will not disappoint you.

I have heard it is a great show but I cant say it looks appealing to me. Still I already like it better than the film the very little I seen.

The Sixth Sense -9/10 Unbreakable -9/10 Glass -8/10 Split -7/10 The Village -6/10 The Visit -6/10 The Happening -5/10 Signs -4/10
I suppose I like Glass and The Village more than the average person and Signs a bit less. The Happening could be higher if it's really meant to be a parody as moviemouth once told me. I skipped his more hated efforts.
*Edited in light of M. Night comments that The Happening is in fact intentionally funny.

I think I said that I heard someone say it can be seen as a parody or "maybe" that was the intention. The issue is that even if that were true, it fails. It is still a boring movie even if it was intended to be funny. The reason I figured maybe that was the intention is because "WTF?" and because it came right after Lady in the Water which I do see as a black comedy in ways. I mean this movie involves one character who has been only working out one arm and so he has one skinny arm and one extremely buff arm. It involves a motel janitor who finds a portal to a fantasy world in the motel pool and a fantasy wolf who brutally kills a cynical book critic. This movie was obviously a response to M. Night's critics in regards to The Village and I find that amusing.

I can see an argument for its bad acting and many silly aspects being an homage to 50s b movies, though I'm troubled no one involved has come out and said it. We know at least Market Mark wasn't in on the joke: he's trashed it publicly.

Also: I stand somewhat corrected, I guess. I'll put it over Signs then. Now that I found dull, with a side of pretentious.
