Who would have thought this one action film would spawn such a large, successful franchise with 9 (and counting) films along with spinoffs?
Confession time: I've never seen any of the Fast and Furious films. Don't have any plans to either. Looks to me like it's just a street-racing version of "Point Break".
Leonard Maltin Movie Guide Review:
The Fast and The Furious (2001) - 2.5 out of 4 stars
"A souped-up 21st-century version of a 1950's hot-rod movie. Newcomer Walker tries to ingratiate himself with the kingpin of Southern California street racing (Diesel), hoping to join his extended family. Rudimentary storyline frames some pulse-quickening action scenes...but this goes on longer than any drive-in movie really should. Followed by 2 FAST 2 FURIOUS. Super 35."

And most of us were introduced to Michelle Rodriguez; who makes a scowl look hot.

It's a remake of the AIP film--they did the hot rod movie but the target audience is not the same. Still a youth market but the original was aimed at the demographic that attend Trump rallies. This is aimed at the urban inner city side of it.

I wouldn't say I'm a huge fan of the franchise. I do like some of the movies though. I'll always find it impressive though how they took this low to mid budget 2000's film and turned it into a huge blockbuster franchise. I give Justin Lin a lot of credit because he saw the potential the series had. I also find it interesting how Lin is really the true driving force behind the series, yet he isn't even one of the original creators. Shows how collaborative filmmaking truly is.

Do you really want more stupid comments from people unable to avoid the Fast and Furious films thus them feeling sexually abused by the gas guzzling church of Vin Diesel or are we good here.

On its own, the movie was alright. The story was formulaic, but the film's biggest attraction were the racing scenes and the stunt work. The charisma of Vin Diesel definitely helped elevate it, too. Still, it's impressive how this film kickstarted a franchise.

If I had to rank what installments I’ve seen so far, it’s somewhere in the middle.
