Rocky III wasn't better than the original, but it's easily the best of the many sequels. You'd put III above II?ย ย Yes, even though I think II is a fantastic film. As stated above, III was just a lot more fun, a roller coaster ride of thrilling moments. I was like 11 or 12 when I saw it in the theater, and it was the most rambunctious crowd experience I've experienced in a movie theater. By the final fight, the theater sounded like they were at the fight themselves. II was just a bit too slow in it's execution, and honestly the Adrian coma part dragged on too long. I will say, though, that Adrian's "win" to Rocky and the fight with Creed are two of the greatest moments of the entire franchise.

I can't imagine what it was like in the theater with such an infectious atmosphere for III. You never forget crowds like that. I agree on the Adrian coma thing. At a certain point you get a little tired of Rocky sitting around, moping, brooding, etc. I mean we know he's going to start training and get ready eventually. It just should have happened a little sooner. But once Adrian gives him the OK, then the movie soars high.
