I am asking for direct adaptations of specific novels.
A Christmas Carol? Jane Eyre? Little Women? Great Expectations? Oliver Twist? Dracula?

Zorro has appeared in many, and when I looked it up, first appeared in the novel called The Curse of Capistrano. Though, like Zorro, if you're going by characters that first appeared in novels, maybe Sherlock Holmes.

Though, like Zorro, if you're going by characters that first appeared in novels, maybe Sherlock Holmes. But aren't those different novels? Sherlock Holmes has appeared in the most movies, but I am only talking about specific novels. It would go by how many times "Hound of the Baskervilles" has been adapted, for example.

I am only familiar with a couple movies that are direct adaptations of Mary Shelly's novel. Aren't most of the movies that character appears in just spin-offs and sequels?

I was trying to explain that in my second sentence. Maybe The Adventures of Pinocchio would be more in tune with the topic, though done in children's versions thanks to the influence of the Disney film.

It's gotta be A Christmas Carol, don't you think?

Are you just counting every movie with Dracula in it as an adaptation of Bram Stoker's Dracula?

Yes but a lot of times the basic story of Frankenstein is included--the creature being created. You could also say Jurassic Park and the Matrix are Frankenstein inspired.
Another is War of the Worlds--lots of alien invasion stories come from that.

That isn't what I am asking for. I am not asking for "inspired by" or "sort of."

That is because they are counting every movie that involves the character of Frankenstein's monster.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is another.

Dr. Jekyll and Mr. Hyde is another. That is okay, I just wanted to make myself clear. I wasn't sure if you knew exactly what I was asking for, but that could be my fault for not being more specific.

Probably the Bible if you’re counting that.

Probably the Bible if you’re counting that. I wouldn't count the Bible, but how many movies are adaptations of the entire Bible anyway? Very few. They are almost always movies about sections of the Bible, often New Testament stuff. I guess if you went with just the New Testament, then you would be able to count any movie about the life of Jesus. That would be quite a few.
