The producers of Forrest Gump loved the "Dragon" soundtrack so much they used it in their original trailer.

Just about any John Barry score. Out of Africa is very moving outside of his Bond material.
Bernard Herrmann is also great, Vertigo in particular is a strong contender.

Having just re-watched the incredible crime-drama that is At Close Range (1986), for the first time, since, well I was a young teenager, somehow I never forgot the atmosphere and music, combined with all these beautiful images and of course the Madonna hit single, Live to Tell. However, it is really Patrick Leonard who is the main reason, to why that movie hits so deep, and from the very first go, as his much different take on the Madonna single, which I believe he also co-wrote and produced, there is something very fragile and haunting about the melody and sound, and it is such a powerful and beautiful soundtrack. A real shame it did not get an offical release.
Anyway, there are not often that I get the chills or goosebumps, but the great opening shot of a young and reckless Sean Penn, just driving around in his small hometown, looking for something or someone, to make his boring life, maybe seem a bit more exciting for a short moment, and then he suddenly spots Mary Stuart Masterson, and while the film later on, goes into a very dark territory, some truly disturbing and evil scenes, but even later on, it still comes with a dreamlike and floating feeling or atmosphere, and I love how the score fits so well into all this.
