New place that specializes in congee and “rice rolls”. Apparently it is from the Guangzhou area. “Rice Rolls” are like very large dumplings where the outside is presumably made of rice and you have a wide range of choice of fillings. There are also a few dim sum items on the menu.
Anyway, we sit down, the waitress brings the menus and right away tells us that the dish with the pork kidneys is not available! I had to refrain myself from laughing and replying “who the hell eats pork kidneys anyway?”. Then I look at the menu in more detail and see quite a few items that probably won’t be selling like hot cakes, at least to the non-Chinese clientele: pork liver, fried fish skin, chicken feet.
I consider myself fairly open to trying new things but liver and kidneys don’t appeal to me at all. Same for fried fish skin and chicken feet (which I know is a delicacy in China).

I agree, no organ meats or feet for me.

I agree, no organ meats or feet for me. I like chicken hearts. I also tried the heart of a larger animal once (can't remember if it was beef or pork) and didn't dislike it, but it's not something you see every day.

"You are welcome to my share..." (What about steak and kidney pie? May I have your share of that? It's a "must" for me, when I visit the UK.)
While I do like liver, and kidneys -- at least in steak-and-kidney pie -- I can't quite imagine them in Asian Rolls, or Dim Sum. I can't imagine fried fish skin, or chicken feet in anything.

I've seen steak and kidney pies on the menu in the UK but I don't think I have ever tried it. Yes, you can have my share. The fried fish skin was an appetizer I think, probably served by itself, not as a filling or as part of a dish.

Why the hell is it that you can never find steak and kidney pie in the U.S.? I am certain it would become popular if some place started selling it here. I spent a whole summer in England many years ago and they had it in every fish and chips take-away. I liked it so much I never tried the fish and chips.

The only time I've had Steak-and-Kidney pie in the U.S., was when a colleague who was from Manchester made it for a small dinner party.
We do have restaurants that are patterned after "Pubs," that you find in the UK countries, but I've never seen that dish on their menus.
