I had some from Publix in mid May that were very sweet. When I bought some 2 weeks ago, they were tasteless.

I just bought some this morning, and will have a few with ice cream, this evening.
As with much produce, they're available pretty much all year 'round, but I tend to get into "fruit mode," when it's actually summer, here. The one's that I bought are from Watsonville, CA., which is just several miles south of here. I didn't check their origin, until I read your post about getting them from North Carolina. My understanding is that Maine is Blueberry Heaven, but I've never had them ... to my knowledge. When I was little, I had a little book titled Blueberries for Sal. It was the story of a little girl named Sal, who went out to pick Maine blueberries, with her father and her sister. I hadn't though of that book for years.

I'm waiting for the ones on my bushes to ripen. Nice! How many do you have? Are they hard to grow?

I bought different varieties at our old K-Mart at the end of the season for several years. Usually got them at 50 - 75% off. Never do anything special to them. I think I have six bushes, three or four varieties. One has huge berries and one has really small, the others are regular size. I wrote down the varieties somewhere, but lost the list long ago. It's been so rainy here, with very little sun for weeks before the rains. Nothing is on schedule this year. Usually have a ripe tomato by the 4th, but they just aren't growing very fast. The blueberries are still small and green. We've had over 7 1/2 inches of rain in just a few days time. Other spots in the state have had extreme amounts of rain, over 10+ inches in one day's time, lots of flooding.

Blueberry seeds are the worst when they get stuck in your teeth.

Blackberry seeds are worse in my opinion.

I'm going to Maine next week for the first time. Apparently, that area is something of a blueberry haven. I'll report back with my findings!
