Okay, you can already engrave Jacob deGrom's name on it. He's have a historic year. When you are comparing a pitcher's season to Smoky Joe Wood in 1912 and Bob Gibson in 1968, you really are on to something. But Kevin Gausman isn't far behind. Let's compare, shall we?
JdG - 7-2, 0.69 ERA, 122 K, 11 BB (!), 0.526 WHIP (!!), 4.7 WAR Gaus - 8-1, 1.49 ERA, 112 K, 20 BB, 0.722 WHIP, 4.3 WAR
Not saying Gausman is having a better year that JdG, he ain't. But he's having a hell of a season. In much more of a hitter's park. This was a guy who was waived by the Reds in August, 2019. He hits free agency after this season, will he make more in FA than the gross national product of Denmark? I haven't seen his name on the list of pitch doctors.

Gausman has been fantastic which is one reason Giants is doing so well, but deGrom is on another level so far. Still plenty of time for Gausman to catch up and deGrom to fall back especially deGrom can hurt a lot.

I agree with everything except about Gaus being in a more hitter-friendly park. Oracle Park consistently rates as one of the most friendly confines for pitchers, while Citi Field has continuously moved the fences in since its inception back in '09, putting it at a more middle-of-the-road type of park in terms of favoring hitters or pitchers.
Not to take anything at all away from Gausman, he's been completely brilliant this year (and a well-timed season for his pocket). I still think the Giants pitching staff will regress to the mean a bit in the 2nd half, literally all of them are pitching so far above their career lines it's just difficult to imagine them all maintaining it. Still, it's remarkable how well they have pitched.

Everyone thought the NL West was a two team race, LA and San Diego. But there sets the G Men with the best record in baseball. Anthony DeSclafani (sp) is having nearly as good of a season as Gausman. Alex Wood and Johnny Cueto make for a solid rotation. Jake McGee and Tyler Rogers are lights out in the bullpen. Buster Posey is rejuvenated. If Mike Yaz can start to hit like he did last year, the giants could run away with this. The Dodgers don't look to be as good as they have been. San Diego should be playing better than they have been. Swept by the Rockies, yuck.
This could be the playoff race in baseball. shame about the wild cards. Think how cool it would be with two divisions and a winner take all scenario, like 1993.

How much does the ballpark determine a pitchers value? the 2019 Reds had Gausman, DeSclafini (I'm not trying to spell that again), Trevor Bauer, Sonny Gray and Luis Castillo. Castillo has gone to pot but how would you like to have a rotation of those first four? But, in 2019, Gray was the only one of the four that was really worth a rats backside. Is it the ballpark, the coaching or what?

Actually, I predicted the Giants would finish 2nd in the division before the season started, as I also predicted the Red Sox would win the AL East. Of course, I also picked the Rays to finish last in the AL East. Hey, no one's perfect....

In addition to the rotation, their line-up is not bad. Even losing Evan Longoria (who was scorching hot) and Brandon Belt to injury, the line-up is pounding up and down. Steven Duggar is hitting way above 300. Those of us who watched the Mets know what Wilmer Flores can do. They got Yaz, Solano, and Dickerson contributing What can I say about Brandon Crawford, one of my favorite under rated players in MLB. And then the MVP candidate Buster Posey.
